AWE is looking for Data Scientists (Warhead)
We have vacancies for Data Scientists to join a centralised Data Science and Analytics capability within Warhead Engineering. The Team is expanding and provides Data Science and Analytics support across a range of business areas.
Data scientists will work across Science, Engineering and Business Operations to apply mathematical, problem solving and programming skills to manage small and big data sets to extract valuable insights. Identify trends and deploying machine learning models.
Location - Reading Area
Salary: £37,860 - £46,000 (dependent on your suitability and level of experience)

The successful candidates will have an appropriate qualification in statistics/ mathematics/ data analysis or a related STEM subject.
What you would be responsible for:
- Develop statistical modelling
- Quantifying uncertainty in experimental results and sparse datasets
- Defining and quantifying the confidence in outputs & analyses
- Discovering, interpreting and then communicating trends in large sets of data
- Helping teams to build accurate computational models using multiple levels of fidelity
- Expertise in R, Python or MATLAB
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact with staff at all levels and specialisms
To be considered for these roles, although not to be considered a full checklist we would like you to be able to demonstrate experience of some of the following:
- Interpreting customer requirements into analysis deliverables
- Acting as the technical lead for junior team members on specific work packages
- Knowledge of techniques such as regression analysis, design of experiments, time series modelling, Bayesian statistics, extreme value analysis, and set up and analysis of computational experiments
- Knowledge of machine learning including deep learning techniques
- Be a member of a relevant Professional Institution and be working towards Charted status
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role and be willing and able to travel within the UK and overseas as required.
