Associate Mechanical Design Engineer required. Our client is a building services and environmental design consultancy specialising in the design and integration of mechanical, electrical and public health systems for buildings. They are looking for an Associate Design Engineer due to the growth of the business.

Successful candidates must perform a hands-on design role, be able to manage fees and resources for the projects and have great interpersonal skills as they will be primary point of contact with external teams and will lead junior engineers.

Associate Mechanical Design Engineer Position Overview

  • Lead the engineering design on multiple projects. To liaise with the external design team and take responsibility for ensuring the coordination of the building services design.
  • Provide technical engineering leadership internally, developing innovative concept designs, sharing knowledge and offering technical development and guidance to others.
  • Carry out engineering design tasks and analysis such as load calculations, modelling, equipment sizing, delegating tasks to junior engineers where appropriate.
  • Produce design packages including sketches, drawings, stage reports, specifications, and technical schedules, delegating tasks to junior engineers where appropriate.
  • Liaise with equipment manufacturers and utility suppliers to review technical equipment selections, make utility applications, and ensure they meet the requirements of the design, delegating tasks to junior engineers where appropriate.
  • Actively seek and understand the project brief and client aspirations and ensure these are translated to the design.
  • Ensure the design complies with relevant building regulations, planning policy, British standards, CIBSE guidelines etc.
  • Understand the level of design required for the design stage and understand the scope and fee available for the work stage.
  • Visit site and liaise as necessary with the contractors to ensure the design intent is followed, and to complete site inspection reports.
  • Manage the workload of junior team members, develop their skills, share knowledge and offer guidance.
  • Seek and record evidence of continuing professional development (CDP) in accordance with CIBSE, IET or IMechE guidelines.
  • Be aware of health and safety issues in construction and understand the designer's obligations under Construction Design and Management Regulations.
  • To be aware of, contribute to, and comply with internal standards and procedures.

Associate Mechanical Design Engineer Position Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in building services design.
  • In-depth knowledge of building regulations and CIBSE guidelines
  • Chartered or member of CIBSE, IET or IMechE advantageous
  • Competent with AutoCAD, Revit and BIM software.

Associate Mechanical Design Engineer Position Remuneration

  • Salary: £60,000- £80,000 (potentially negotiable)
  • Working hours: 9-5:30pm
  • Remote working available on occasions
  • Life Insurance
  • Holiday package: 24 days + 8BH
  • Pension
