Mechanical Engineer

Location: Dalton, Thirsk

Salary: Up £50,000 plus bonus and overtime

Hours: DAYS, Rotating weekly shift pattern. Monday to Friday Early -6am till 3:30pm / Lates - Mon-Fr 9.30am till 8pm ) 45 hours a week

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a small engineering team for a very well established and growing company.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the purpose of the role is to maintain reliable operation of the plant.

The role would require the skills of an experienced maintenance/mechanical type of person with a bias to mechanical but electrical will be considered with relevant mechanical experience.

The role works closely with the production team, so the role requires good communication skills to ensure that daily goals are achieved.

There will be up to 6 occasions per year, where there will be a requirement to cover for holidays for the night shift engineer.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a full range of plant maintenance tasks and repairs on a proactive/reactive basis.

  • Process optimisation to ensure maximum efficiency.

  • Implement equipment reliability improvements and develop new maintenance workflow methods and techniques.

  • Manage your own workflow to remain within the maintenance budget.

  • Ensure availability of critical spares.

  • Oversee projects when required.


Key Skills and qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of EHS and a safety culture

  • Post apprenticeship experience.

  • Electro-Mechanical fault finding/repairs to PLC controlled plant. Includes pneumatic and hydraulics.

  • Carrying out Preventive maintenance tasks.

  • Some work at heights will be required.

  • Ability to organise, coordinate and accomplish multiple tasks.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills, able to provide detailed shift reports.

  • A high drive and energy level, can-do attitude, and excellent attention to detail.

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently.

  • Be flexible, adjust shifts to cover another engineer’s holiday.

  • Prepared to participate in training and development.

  • Ensure all planned and routine maintenance are carried out and documented on the CMMS.

  • Excellent technical, analytical, and fault-finding skills.

  • PC literate, competent computer skills.

  • Proven continuous improvement skills.
