We delighted to be working exclusively with a local dynamic and growing manufacturing business based in Scarborough. Due to continued growth, they are now looking for a Financial Controller to join their Accounts team.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Financial Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the company. You will manage a team of three within the accounts function and actively participate in a number of key projects within the business, as well as contributing to the development and execution of the finance strategy.

What the Financial Controller job involves

  • Managing the accounts function for 6 companies.
  • Preparing financial reports and financial statements.
  • Analyse financial data to provide insights and recommendations to directors for strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor financial performance against budget, forecast, and KPIs.
  • Look to optimise cash management strategies and maximise investment returns.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with the directors to develop accurate forecasts and budgets.
  • Track budget performance throughout the year, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and tax laws.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.
  • Lead the implementation and integration of a new ERP system.
  • Identify opportunities for system enhancements or upgrades to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Analyse cost structures and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Monitor and report on key cost drivers, such as raw materials, labour, and overhead expenses.
  • Optimise procurement processes and vendor relationships.
  • Develop financial models and scenarios to support strategic decision-making and investment analysis.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.

Skills required

  • Someone who is Qualified with ACA, ACCA, CIMA or Part Qualified or Qualified by experience.
  • Experience of using Sage 50 or similar accounting software.
  • Someone who is driven, passionate about accounts and looking to eventually be the number one in the finance function.
  • Solutions focused with a commercial background.
