Vertical Recruitment are proud to be working with a reputable renewable energy and utility contractor that are at the forefront of the UK's low carbon energy generating systems of the future. As a leading turnkey engineering contractor, they design, install, operate and maintain environmentally friendly energy generating systems and networks employing technologies including air source and water source heat pumps, commercial and utility scale solar photo-voltaic plants, grid connected battery energy systems and biomass boilers. They require an Electrical Design Engineer, to work in this exciting and growing sector of the industry.

The Role:

Reporting to the Senior Design Engineer, this role involves a broad range of electrical design work on industrial, commercial and public sector projects. This will include pre-construction/tender design work including concept design work, review and analysis of third-party specifications/drawings and detailed design work for pre-construction service agreements (PCSA) and investment grade proposals (IGP). The role also requires engagement with equipment vendor supply chain, site investigations and surveys, client meetings and input into tender submissions and presentations.

Working within a team of different grades of electrical engineers you will be responsible, under supervision and support from the senior engineer, for elements of electrical design including electrical plant layouts, switchroom and substations layouts, equipment and cable sizing, lighting design, containment sizing and building services design.

You will be responsible for junior electrical engineers of varying levels including allocation of work, reviewing and checking of documentation along with ensuring all projects responsibilities are delivered on time and to programme.

Key Duties:

  • Electrical design work during pre-construction stages and during project delivery as required by the department’s workload
  • Work within multi-disciplinary work winning teams to deliver technically compliant tenders
  • Survey and report on existing electrical installations
  • Engage equipment vendor supply chain to ensure electrical equipment selections are valid technically, specification compliant, value for money and available within programme constraints
  • Have an awareness of cost implications within design.
  • Assist with effectively dealing with design issues and minimising their impact.
  • Ability to design systems in the form of calculations, equipment selection and process operation.
  • Liaising with external designers, customers and in-house project teams.
  • Compliance with CDM requirements and our in in-house design processes.
  • Ability to design systems in the form of schematics, calculations, equipment selection, detailed drawings and provide inputs for control operating strategies.
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice with company procedures.

The Person:

The successful candidates will ideally be qualified at degree level or similar (HNC/ HND), with a minimum of 2 to 4 years’ relevant experience working for a consultancy or a contractor. The individuals will have:

  • Knowledge of MS office applications word, excel
  • Experience using Trimble ProDesign (Amtech)
  • Good understanding of the latest edition of the IET wiring regulation
  • Sound knowledge of electrical building services design
  • Ability to prioritize own workload and work to deadlines.
