We are currently recruiting for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our Nuclear Power and Engineering Technical Services (NPETS) business. NPETS is entering an exciting phase of opportunity by supporting our key client’s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation, and by supporting new small modular reactor developers. Our work is varied, covering New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling, and our capabilities are in demand across the nuclear sector.

This role will be based at one of our NPETS offices in Newcastle, Warrington, Knutsford, Gloucester, or Dorchester. We put flexibility at the heart of what we do and are happy to consider flexible working patterns. Key responsibilities include:

Working with integrated multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-profile projects.
Managing programmes and resources, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
Taking ownership of technical challenges, developing strategies, and implementing solutions through engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
Producing and reviewing design deliverables (assumption notes, technical specifications, calculation notes, etc.).
Directing resources to perform analysis tasks as necessary.
Developing and reviewing safety case inputs, such as Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs), Structural Design Method Statements (SDMSs), and Design Substantiation Reports (DSRs).
Reviewing and justifying design decisions to the Office of Nuclear Regulation (ONR).
Fulfilling and taking ownership of CDM responsibilities.
Supporting the preparation of fee proposals.
Developing client relationships to help grow the portfolio.
Qualifications:

MEng, MSc, BEng, or BSc in Civil Engineering or another relevant degree-level qualification.
Chartered with a relevant institution (e.g., ICE or IStructE).
Ability to work within, and where required, lead a design team, and collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams.
Good understanding of structural theory with proven problem-solving ability.
Previous experience in the design and/or construction of civil engineering solutions using Eurocodes (and ideally American codes).
Demonstrable experience in the design of heavy infrastructure projects, particularly in nuclear or regulated industries.
Experience using finite element modelling software and associated post-processing software, with experience in validation and verification of modelling tools and their outputs.
Understanding of the use of design tools within a BIM environment.
Problem solver able to offer solutions to challenges.
Knowledge and understanding of the UK Nuclear Regulatory process in the field of civil engineering is highly desirable.
Experience with ONR Generic Design Assessment is highly desirable.
