A Midlands based battery cell research and manufacturing centre is currently recruiting a Senior Battery Scientist. The successful candidate will work alongside a small and growing team of Scientists and Engineers in Electrochemistry team for development and industrialisation of batteries.
 
The Senior Battery Scientist will:
  • Support the verification of battery materials supplied by third parties against specification and the due diligence process of ensuring safe use in the facility.
  • Liaise with external suppliers covering materials, research, and academic institutes to support the build materials knowledge base.
  • Support product quality, component material selection approval and cell material performance validation & test activities.
  • Review and write technical papers, participate in customer meetings, and perform testing and analysis to support company activities, including feasibility evaluation.
  • Support the creation of safety data sheets (MSDS) for products manufactured.
 
The Senior Battery Scientist will have:
  • A PhD level university education in Materials Engineering, Chemistry or physical sciences or any other related discipline. Exceptional candidates with Master’s degree will be considered.
  • Significant experience of lithium-ion batteries (ideally automotive but not essential) and their material components.
  • Previous research experience in other electrochemical technologies such as fuel cells, semi-conductors, alternative battery/energy storage technologies or supercapacitors.
  • Materials synthesis, materials analysis techniques such as SEM, EDX, ICP OES, FTIR etc.
  • Ability to deliver operational plans in a highly demanding environment.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas.
