Material Controller

The Material Controller is responsible for supporting the establishment and ramp-up of Logistics operations at a specialised, small-volume automotive manufacturing operation.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and lead Logistics Control Operations enabling vehicle production on daily basis to produce high quality vehicles across all models.
  • Work with GMAE/GMA members to lead the development and standardization of Logistics Control Operations milestones to achieve customer expectations and maximize production.
  • Work with the Purchasing, Manufacturing & Design teams to ensure capacity planning, on time delivery & stock control.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to develop a supply chain strategy within GMA.
  • Work together with GMAE/GMA members to continuously improve / develop logistics process.
  • Investigate stock discrepancies and improve the accuracy of information.
  • Liaise with Manufacturing and purchasing departments to avoid manufacturing delays.
  • Support Production control / purchasing functions as necessary to cover holidays and absence.
  • Support Cycle Time and line rebalancing, trials and training activities from logistics point of view.
  • Support new model activities.
  • Promote, establish, and sustain problem-solving through daily management by engaging team members to improve their process through understanding of targets and gaps.
  • Maintaining accurate records and manage / controlling weekly and monthly stock levels, delivery times and transport costs then coordinate and control the order cycle. Identify waste in logistics processes and implement activities to improve efficiency.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Experience within procurement of materials.
  • Experience with ERP and/or MRP systems.
  • Able to analyse complex data to ensure optimisation of manufacturing constraints.
  • Excellent proficiency in the use of office products (predominantly Excel).
  • Previous experience within a comparable role.
  • Experience in working collaboratively and cross-functionally.
  • Detailed knowledge of demand planning and forecasting processes.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills in addition to strong Excel skills.
  • Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients both written and verbal.
