Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading power company in the UK to recruit a Lead Mechanical Strategy Engineer for its Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) site in Kent.

The Lead Mechanical Strategy Engineer comes with a salary up to £71000 + private medical + benefits package.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Mechanical Team Leader you will:
  • Develop and implement engineering and maintenance strategies, policies and procedures to achieve measured station performance.
  • Carry out the assessment of critical plant and use of reliability centred maintenance techniques to review and optimise all planned and preventive maintenance activities on plant area of responsibility.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement plan, conducting root cause analysis where required.
  • Develop medium- and long-term improvement and investment strategies, including plant outage strategy, projecting major parts replacements.
  • Manage the site's Asset Risk database to reflect significant changes.
  • Mentor other strategy engineering within the team and provide technical support to the mechanical delivery team, who carry out day-to-day maintenance tasks on site.
  • Design and delivery of technically complex project, with delegated management of outage and project work, ensuring it is completed within budget, and quality standards.
  • Be the lead reviewer for plant modification, coordinating technical design reviews and approval for implementation.
  • Work with operations, delivery and contracting teams to ensure maintenance strategy and running regime are optimised.




Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:
  • A HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • At least 5 years' experience in a maintenance environment in a heavy industrial environment (power station, refinery, petrochemical etc).
  • Experience writing contract specifications, carrying out long term maintenance strategy planning and overseeing risk management in a similar environment.
  • A strong understanding of power station operations, specifically Combined Cycle Gas Turbines (CCGT).
  • Ideally hold an IOSH or NEBOSH certificate.



Personal skills

The Lead Mechanical Strategy Engineer role would suit someone who:
  • Has a good working knowledge of QHSE legislations and standards.
  • Has a passion for fault-finding and problem solving.
  • Has excellent planning and organisational skills.

  • Starting Salary of £60,000 - £71,000
