Our Client is a privately owned multi-disciplinary property consultancy who deliver innovative projects, with a shared goal to create positive changes for the benefit of people’s communities, homes, work and education. Such a rare noble cause creates a truly unique working environment, emphasised by a healthy mix of public and private sector experienced Engineers, Project Managers, Surveyors, Architects and H&S professionals, collaborating to achieve outstanding results.

Working closely and on behalf of Leeds City Council the team has continued to grow in size and diversity since its formation in 2012, delivering a number of noteworthy projects across the city. Key projects have ranged from multi-million pound extra care housing schemes to the restoration of the Leeds Art Gallery and Library, successfully delivering major improvements for the whole community to enjoy.

Succession planning for any organisation is vital, effectively managing change and ensuring all services and divisions thrive under new leadership. With the planned retirement of the current Head of Building Services, the search for a new M&E spearhead to takeover is underway. This challenging, yet highly rewarding role, will offer the successful candidate a rare opportunity to oversee schemes that will greatly impact and improve the lives of Leeds residents and visitors, ensuring the great city of Leeds continue to be a flagship location to work, live and socialise.

The appointed Engineer must have a strong Building Services background, ideally Chartered, and be able to demonstrate robust leadership through challenging economic times. Working as part of the Senior Management Team and reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Head of Building Services will promote excellence and commercial intelligence, supporting a team of mechanical and electrical design, maintenance and facilities professionals. With a talented team already in place and the freedom to implement fresh ideas, you will be responsible for all things Building Services, along with a wider remit to support cross-departmental collaboration and facilitate the smooth delivery of key projects and targets.

Applications are invited from Building Services Engineers with a wealth of experience across design and operations, capable of managing the expectations of internal and external influences, meeting agreed objectives and overseeing a fluid division that works effectively and smartly. Whilst it is anticipated that the appointed Engineer will have a strong mechanical or electrical bias, it is essential that interested partes have an understanding of their weaker discipline and comfortable overseeing the department as a whole. This key appointment will also require a degree of engineering hands on input, technical leadership is often best demonstrated practically, setting the standards for everyone to follow.

Suitable candidates may include those working in a Property or Estates Department as a section leader, M&E Consultancy as an Associate or Technical Director, or alternatively an M&E Contractor working at a senior level across their Design, Operations or Commercial divisions. Previous public sector experience would be advantageous, alongside a familiarity with traditional local authority processes, systems and procedures.

The company offers a wide range of additional employee flexible benefits, discounts and schemes.
