Solutions Architect (Comms)

Remote /Hybrid - Manchester

From £60,000 upwards DOE

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Sales team & clients to understand requirements and technical needs.
  • Design end-to-end communication solutions, including network infrastructure, software applications, and integration with third-party systems.
  • Oversee the development of detailed architecture diagrams, technical specifications, and implementation plans.
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies, products, and vendors to meet project requirements.
  • Design RF systems and networks, including antenna selection, placement, and configuration and interference mitigation strategies.
  • Develop detailed RF system designs, including RF links, frequency planning, and channel allocation.
  • Evaluate and recommend RF hardware and software solutions, including RF transceivers, antennas, amplifiers, and RF front-end components.
  • Support cross-functional teams to implement communication solutions, ensuring alignment with project timelines and budget.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and design to implementation and deployment.
  • Conduct thorough testing and quality assurance to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of communication solutions.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on RF & other communication technologies and best practices, providing thought leadership and guidance to internal teams and clients.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and advancements in communication technology, and proactively identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Support the development and approval of project PID documents to ensure project efficiency and prevent over runs.
  • Exploring supplier trade events, roadshows, and innovation showcases to discover new solutions, suppliers, and technologies, enhancing our network of suppliers.

Essential Experience - Technical Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in designing and implementing communication & RF solutions for clients.
  • Strong knowledge of networking principles, protocols, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, MPLS).
  • Proficiency in telecommunication systems, including VoIP, SIP, PBX, and Unified Communications (UC).
  • Experience with RF test equipment, including spectrum analysers, network analysers, and signal generators.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards for RF emissions, safety, and compliance.
  • Experience with software-defined networking (SDN), virtualization, and cloud-based communication platforms.
  • Demonstrated expertise in solution architecture, including requirements analysis, system design, and integration.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or equivalent are desirable.
  • Ability to produce documentation to a high standard outlining design, requirements, and solution engineering to enable robust project delivery.
  • Experience developing and productisation of new solutions to enable revenue generation.

Interpersonal Skills

Communication Skills: Clear and concise communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, understanding client requirements, and collaborating with team members. This includes both verbal and written communication.

Problem-Solving Skills: Solutions Architect must be adept at analysing complex problems, identifying potential solutions, and evaluating trade-offs. Strong problem-solving skills enabling the development of innovative solutions that address client challenges effectively.

Collaboration: Experience of collaborating with cross-functional teams comprising developers, engineers, project managers, business stakeholders and clients.

Adaptability: Technology landscapes and client requirements are constantly evolving. The Solutions Architect needs to be adaptable and flexible, capable of quickly adapting to changes and implementing new approaches as needed.

Time Management and Prioritisation: Given the challenging nature of working on multiple presales projects Effective time management and prioritisation skills are essential for meeting deadlines, allocating resources efficiently, and balancing competing demands.
