We at Major Recruitment are recruiting for an experienced Production Setter/Press Setter to work for one of our large clients based in Brierley Hill.

The job role

To set machines in line with safe working procedures for operators signed off on the competency matrix.

To assist with the day-to-day mechanical breakdowns of equipment, reporting any issues over technical ability to maintenance. To train and guide other operators in the areas for use of best practice in running the assets.

Competencies required

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment to tight production deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment involving elements manual handling including, but not limited to bending, stretching, stepping, reaching & lifting.
  • Proven fault-finding skills within a mechanical engineering background.
  • Able to confidently and accurately read and interpret mechanical drawings and setting data.
  • Capability to use tools correctly including tape measure, micrometre, verniers and other go/no-go gauges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sharing responsibility for ensuring safety within operations are paramount, ensuring a safe working environment by identifying non-conformance and risks and reporting these to the Team Leader and/or Line Management.
  • Set, operate, and troubleshoot the assets through technical knowledge and competence.
  • Input data into the PC - works orders and part specifications to ensure correct set up for manufacture.
  • Fault find on daily generic issues, escalating complex faults through the maintenance reporting systems.
  • Inspection of production first offs to ensure rejects are not passed on through the process.
  • Follow production schedules as per SAP, working to works orders priorities and due dates.
  • Produce quality product, at the agreed output rates, within drawing stated tolerances, thus avoiding unnecessary scrap.
  • To operate all machine controls, which are a combination of mechanical, push button and computer key/touch pads.
  • Complete, in a timely, accurate, manner the following daily documentation: Daily activity reports, guard check documentation, quality control report, and any other production related reports.
  • To train and mentor operators on safe working processes and procedures.
  • Ensure scrap is recorded and segregated in line with procedures.
  • To be participate in for Team Based Maintenance plus general maintenance of the machinery and equipment.
  • Undertake general housekeeping as per company procedures / as required, ensuring the area is kept clean and is safe to work in.
  • To assist with the introduction of new equipment when required.
  • To train on multiple asset types for flexibility and production demand. This is managed through the local training matrix which aligns with skill set.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Experience of working with metal forming techniques.
  • Good attention to detail to highlight any issues or defects.
  • Computer literate.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with rolling mills, power presses etc.
  • Power press certification.
  • Slinging/crane certification.

Fork-lift (counter-balance) certification.
