As the Civil/Structural Engineer you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team where the primary purpose of the role is to directly support a major defence project.
- Are you a proven Civil Structural Engineer where you have extensive experience of supporting steelwork structure related projects within nuclear, defence or another highly regulated industry?
- Do you have knowledge design substantiation or justification and design modification?
- Would you be interested in joining a well-established engineering consultancy on long-term key project?

Your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of the Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
- Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of design changes/concessions
- Presentation of the clients substantiations, to ‘Due Process’ nuclear safety committees
- Production and development of Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) Schedule, operating procedures and results to satisfy design requirements and safety case through life
- Producing/assessing Periodic Review of Safety reports
- Providing advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders
- Production of Independent Technical Review (ITA)/Independent Peer Review (IPR)
- Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology
- Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment
- Producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant civil/structural design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- Proven experience in the design assessment of steelwork structures to withstand dynamic loads including; earthquake motions, blast, wind, rain and snow loading
- Experience working on steelwork marine structures and jetties would be ideal
- Experience of producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant structural design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry
- Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment
- Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology
- Structural Engineering degree
- Incorporated engineer (or equivalent experience)
- All candidates must be willing and able to attain the required level of security clearance needed for the assignment.
It’s great if you also have the following:
- Experience working in a nuclear environment
- Familiarity with safety case development techniques e.g. HAZID/HAZOP studies.
- Chartered engineer (or equivalent experience)
