Shipping & Logistics Manager

I am currently recruiting a Shipping & Logistics Manager to join a vibrant engineering company experiencing a period of significant growth.

Your role on joining the business will be to assume overall responsibility for all Logistics within the company, advising on all the best practises and current legislation regarding exports with a view to bringing organisation and best practices to the department.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of customs rules and regulations, as well as hands-on experience in managing outgoing warehouses. As Shipping & Logistics Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with international trade laws, facilitating smooth export and import operations, and optimizing the efficiency of our supply chain. This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to circumstances.

In addition you will be responsible for setting up / improving the warehouse and ERP systems, so experience of similar is essential

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Managing daily despatches and correct documentation in a timely manner.
• Negotiate rates with incumbent suppliers and continually try to engage with alternative logistic solutions.
• Building and maintaining a professional relationship with new and existing carriers.
• Collaborating with internal departments to optimize the flow of orders from preparation to shipment.
• Knowledge of Import processes.
• Ensure all duties and taxes are correct and in accordance with the shipment.
• Schedule and track inbound and outgoing shipments.
• Ensure materials are delivered to sites in a timely manner as per clients’ criteria.
• Assess and recommend ideal shipping methods, routing or carriers to meet necessary parameters, specifications and costs.
• Working Knowledge of Tariff Codes and Incoterms and applicable duties.
• Arrange special transport whenever required.
• Delivering and embedding continuous improvement.

Knowledge Skills & Attributes:

• Proven experience of internal shipping (particularly exports)
• Proactive and responsive
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Is Customer Service focused.
• Proven ability to work within tight deadlines.
• Be conversant in the use of Microsoft packages i.e. Word, Excel etc.
