Position Title: Water Supply Technical Specialist

  • This is an initial 2 year fixed term contract, with the possibility of extension or transfer in to a permanent position.
  • The role can be based either in Birmingham or London. Our client operates flexible hybrid working with the expectation of 2 days per week in the office.
  • The salary range for this role is £36,918-£50,000. Our client operates a 37 hour working week.
  • It is anticipated that applicants will have a minimum of 3 years professional experience working in the UK water industry, specialising in cleanwater (infrastructure or non-infrastructure).
  • Our client offers an industry leading pension scheme, with employer contributions up to 27.9%.
  • Rare opportunity to gain experience of working directly with the water industry regulator leading on the assessment of expenditure for the current price review.

About the Role:

We're in search of two Water Supply Technical Specialists to join our esteemed Cost Assessment team at the Senior Associate level. This role offers a unique and thrilling opportunity for individuals with backgrounds in engineering, water/environmental science, or operational/asset management. You'll be instrumental in the development and execution of ongoing and future price reviews. This role not only offers exposure to regulatory frameworks but also fosters engagement with various key stakeholders within the water sector.

Key Responsibilities:

As part of the Cost Assessment team, you'll play a pivotal role in PR24 delivery. Collaborating with a dynamic mix of economists and water sector experts, you'll spearhead the evaluation of expenditures for the current price review. This includes assessing strategic planning frameworks such as DWMPs, WRMPs, and environmental initiatives like WINEP. Additionally, you'll lead policy initiatives aimed at maximizing value delivery, ensuring long-term focus, facilitating the transition to net zero, and enhancing resilience against sewer flooding, droughts, and broader challenges.

Opportunities within PR24 Work:

  • Analyzing company business plans for PR24, focusing on areas like water quality improvement and resilience enhancement.
  • Utilizing data analysis and investment appraisal techniques, including benchmarking models and thorough reviews of company proposals.
  • Engaging with water companies, regulators, and stakeholders throughout the PR24 process.
  • Supporting the development of investment tracking mechanisms and future price review strategies.

Professional Background:

The ideal candidate may come from diverse professional backgrounds, including water supply process management, design, or delivery, as well as experience in water resilience scheme investment planning or operations. This could involve areas such as network reinforcement, water treatment works investment, emergency planning, and security activities.

Professional Requirements - Essential Criteria:

To excel in this role, you must possess:

  • Relevant experience in water sector engineering, capital or environmental programs, asset/operational management, or business planning.
  • Degree-level qualification in engineering, science, or similar technical discipline.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience in designing and implementing procedures and processes.
