The Opportunity
Given recent and forecasted growth, our leading client are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer – Piping to join their Nuclear Power Business , supporting incredible opportunities in helping to support their key client on Hinkley Point C.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Nuclear Power Programmes are delivering client critical works to some of our major UK and European Projects. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West).
  • Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. They are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.
  • A Team has been created to reinforce the HPC site-based engineering to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A primary benefit of this organisation is to save time for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions to pursue their activities. 
  • You’ll be reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, you will be a Mechanical Engineer, contributing to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the Piping and Supports scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.
  • Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the MEH Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer.
  • Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
  • Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
  • Assist in co-ordinating support from other external organisations.
  • Contribute to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
  • Assess technical risk and subsequently address this risk.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with the clients Engineering (Responsible Designer)
  • Report operationally to an Engineering Lead.

You will have the following qualifications & experience

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience in piping and support design, installation and/or commissioning.
  • Knowledge in applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry.
  • Understanding of the construction / installation industry.
  • Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
  • Experience in the understanding of welding engineering.
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
