Sure Start Staff are seeking an experienced Highways Engineer working for the local authority in Manchester.

Employment Type: Temporary until November 2024
Pay rate: £21.47 - £40.00 per hour, depending on experience
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm
Location: Manchester

Duties and responsibilities

Managing and maintaining highways (defect repairs), (gully cleansing and drainage improvement programmes), (winter maintenance including gritting) highway structures (bridges, culverts and retaining walls).

• Responsibility for contracts relating to the above workstreams.
• Managing contracts relating to the above workstreams.
• Reporting on technical engineering, performance, quality and commercial checks and assessments.
• Keeping asset management information up to date.
• Engineering duties e.g., measurement, setting out, materials and specifications, traffic management, GMRAPS permitting etc.
• Lead on project communication with all stakeholders including residents, businesses, TfGM and elected members throughout the duration of the schemes. This includes answering stakeholder enquiries and organising consultation events.
• Undertake traffic engineering/highway design feasibility studies when required.
• Work with other Council sections and developers to ensure a joined-up approach to traffic management across the city.
• Budget and project management of schemes. along with having financial and procurement accountability for projects.
• Comply with CDM requirements and Health and Safety legislation.
• Provide technical supervision, support and guidance to junior members of staff.

Experience

• Have relevant highway engineering or highway design experience AND
• Hold an undergraduate degree or MSc in a relevant transportation or engineering discipline
• Or hold a HNC / HND in Engineering or a relevant equivalent
• Or be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineering with a relevant institution membership
