Job Function:

Liaison Engineer to support all existing, new and future projects. The Liaison Engineer will attend Line Calls and OILs meetings with an aim to deliver information between the design authority and production functions. Information will be shared in a timely manner, using technical writing skills and knowledge to produce Problem Reports and provide key stakeholders with detailed feedback on engineering changes.

Main Responsibilities:

The Liaison Engineer will be responsible for the following activities:
  • Develop robust solutions for mechanical assembly challenges by using a knowledge of manufacturing processes and methods, to produce detailed technical problem reports for resolving issues.
  • Provide technical support for existing projects by collaborating with multiple departments as part of the Eight disciplines problem solving process (8D).
  • Create and iterate existing designs using 3D CAD systems, following standard modelling, and drawing practices to produce technical engineering drawings for use within production and the supply chain.
  • Manage key stakeholder expectations on large scale engineering projects of high complexity through from supply chain, design to implementation. Confirm and agree technical specifications and requirements. Carefully manage the interface requirements between the factory and sub-suppliers, evaluating technical and commercial risk.
  • Validation of the train design by ensuring that the QA and test and commissioning activities are aligned with the design concept. Provide the necessary feedback into relevant departments.
  • Ensuring that design and system information is correct and aligned with the expected deliverables of the team to enable effective interdepartmental information flow (e.g. Maintenance, Procurement, QHSE, Training, Testing, etc).   
  • Provide support and validation to the RAMS activities.
  • Initiate and implement design optimisations to improve safety, reliability and encourage the introduction of innovations into the product base.
  • Have the ability work with little supervision.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential Requirements:
  • Experience developing product designs for modern rolling stock or other complex mobile machinery.
  • Understand and be able to apply the principles of requirements driven design.
  • Rolling Stock operations knowledge
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and assess potential failure modes and identify design improvements.
  • Reliability and maintenance process knowledge, particularly FMEA.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a multi-cultural team.
  • An excellent standard of English, both written and verbal. Ability to produce technical reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of building good working relationships across all stakeholders
Qualifications
  • Related Engineering Degree.
Desirable
  • CAD experience with Creo and AutoCAD.
  • Be a Chartered engineer or working towards becoming Chartered.
