Shift Team Leader 

Shift Team Leader Overview: As a Shift Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the plant during your shifts. You will assist senior management in achieving key objectives related to facility performance, biomass throughput, energy efficiency, and cost efficiency. This position requires leadership skills, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to health and safety standards.

Shift Team Leader Key Objectives:

  • Assist senior management in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the Biomass Facility.
  • Manage the shift team, day operations staff, and the facility in the absence of operations and maintenance management.
  • Deliver best facility performance regarding biomass throughput, energy efficiency, resource saving, and cost efficiency.

Shift Team Leader Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with the safe system of work and adhere to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits of safety rules adherence and investigate H&S related issues to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Report safety concerns observed during routine plant rounds and take action to mitigate risks.

Shift Team Leader Role Responsibilities:

  • Control the operation of the plant in accordance with operational procedures, environmental legislation, and H&S rules.
  • Operate and monitor plant from a central control room, organizing and supervising ad-hoc maintenance out of office hours.
  • Provide reports in accordance with the company’s reporting system and inform management of operational malfunctions or incidents.
  • Supervise and deploy manpower to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operation of all activities on site.

Shift Team Leader Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experienced Engineer/Technician with a recognized Engineering Apprenticeship/Training.
  • NVQ or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum IOSH Managing Safely certification.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, environmental and H&S regulations.
  • Proven experience in an Energy from Waste facility or similar process, operating high-pressure steam systems.
  • Ability to lead an operations shift team and work effectively in a continuous process environment.

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing operational requirements.

Shift Team Leader Tasks & Duties:

  • Control plant operation according to operational procedures and environmental legislation.
  • Organize and supervise maintenance work, liaising with other company staff to ensure efficient work scheduling.
  • Provide reports on operational performance, health and safety aspects, and compliance exceedances.

Shift Team Leader Package: 

  • £64,444 base 
  • Bonus Scheme Up to 12.5% of base salary
  • Pension - 6% employer contribution, 3% employee
  • (Death in Service) 4 x base salary
