MACHINE OPERATOR  (HORIZONTAL BORER)
 
(4-DAY WEEK, MONDAY – THURSDAY, DAYS)
 
Come and join a leading manufacturer of high performing, special purpose machinery that produces the world's most accurate helical components. Be part of a skilled team that produces bespoke parts for our  in-house manufacture of Holroyd machinery.    
 
As the main operator our of Gidding & Lewis horizontal borer you will be responsible for machining standard and bespoke, medium to large components to very tight tolerances.    We work a four-day week,  Monday - Thursday (day shift only).
 
A comprehensive handover will be provided by the current postholder. 
 
Salary & Benefits: 
  • 4-day week, 38 hours, Mon- Thurs: 06:45 – 16:30,
  • Hourly rate £16.60 - £17.50 dependant on programming ability. Premium rates for overtime working,
  • 5 weeks holidays increasing to 6 with service, plus 8 public holidays, Life Assurance, Matched Pension Contribution up to 6%, Sick Pay Scheme, Employee Assistance Programme and Cash Health Plan, Gift at Christmas
 
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
  • Programme, set and run horizontal borer using Siemens controls  (Heidenhain advantageous)
  • Produce components as per drawings, measuring output for exact adherence to specification,
  • Inspect own work using conventional measurement techniques, diagnose errors and correct any deviation,
  • Carry out routine machine maintenance and general upkeep.
 
Skills and attributes:
  • Experience of working in a metal cutting environment producing precision engineered components to tight tolerances of +/- 10 microns,  
  • Experience of operating conventional milling and vertical boring machines,
  • Experience of CNC milling machines including programming, tooling and setting-up,
  • Knowledge of Siemens software, 
  • Must be able to read technical drawings, 
  • Must have high attention to detail and precision,
  • Team player with excellent problem-solving skills and technical abilities,
  • Keen to learn other machine operations with training, 
  • Flexible and can work overtime including weekend if required,
  • Shows pride in their work and maintains a tidy and clean work area,
  • Understands and adheres to Health & Safety regulations / standards. 
   
Qualifications:
  • Proven time served Miller achieved through traditional City & Guilds craft route or equivalent, or Modern Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3.
  • Training or proven experience of Health & Safety and safe practices of work.
