Health & safety Manager (Automated Warehouse & Baggage Handling Systems)

The Client is the global market leader in baggage handling systems for airports, as well as parcel and postal sorting systems. The HSEQ Manager will assist teams in meeting high HSEQ standards by proactive practices, engagement, policy deployment, and the plan, do, check, act cycle for their strategic partners and other important warehousing projects. You will be in direct communication with the Client Management Team, Clients H&S and Engineering management, Subcontractors, all Client departments, Corporate HSEQ Functions, and Trade Union Representatives.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The key elements of this role involve, creating effective and good working relationships with all departments to ensure that customer expectations are exceeded. Managing the delivery of HSEQ contractual obligations and other activities with the aim of minimising HSEQ risks. Also being responsible for the continuous improvement of policies and procedures as well as learning continuously and developing professional potential and ability.

Your responsibilities and activities will include:

  • To demonstrate HSEQ credentials to its stakeholders through the appropriate management of risk and promotion of a partnership approach.
  • To demonstrate compliance with HSEQ legislation, company processes, standards & other requirements to which the company subscribes.
  • To effectively manage the HSEQ team in the Head of HSEQ UK 's absence as delegated.
  • Line Manager responsibilities for HSEQ -Airport HSEQ team and warehouse HSEQ ensuring continuous development of all team members.
  • Awareness of HSEQ Budget to deliver objectives and provide good value.
  • Supporting proactive approach to driving continuous improvement and behaviours in conjunction with corporate HSEQ roles to maintain alignment of UK with global one way of working.
  • Ensuring local legislation, local HSEQ training requirements and client requirements are embedded into the way of working for each location.
  • Co-ordinating local Tier 1 Safety Meetings and management reviews, agreeing / facilitating delivery of local HSEQ objectives & targets in conjunction with management teams.
  • Maintaining certification to relevant HSEQ standards and developing and delivering audit programme in line with audit, reporting and close out procedures.
  • Supporting a proactive approach to design safety compliance and the creation of a positive design legacy for those interfacing with our systems.
  • Delivering HSEQ dashboard information in line with monitoring and measurement process and global requirements.
  • Monthly / annual HSEQ reports / KPIs / Dashboard, including contribution to Global Reports.
  • HSEQ Management Review reports & Incident Investigations

Role Qualifications & Skills:

  • Previous management experience desirable
  • Understanding of safety legislation / Level 6 NEBOSH or equivalent qualification
  • communication skills at all levels within the business and clients.
  • Strong understanding of CDM and its application to support teams in achieving high standards during the sales, design, installation and commissioning of projects.
  • Practical HSE experience in either a Maintenance, Construction or Engineering industries and application of health & safety practices in a variety of working environments.
  • Experience in incident and accident investigation, management and report compilation including detailed Root Cause Analysis
  • Experience in development & delivery of SQE training packages such as Inductions, Tool Box Talks, Safety Alerts, Incident Investigation & Risk Assessment (Instruction/teaching qualification associated to H&S desirable).
  • Internal Auditing qualification (Lead Auditor qualification - desired)
  • Environmental Qualification - desired
  • Quality Management Qualification - desired
