I am working with a UK wide consultancy to appoint a new Associate Rail (Structures) Engineer in Amersham. Due to unprecedented growth in their pipeline of Rail projects including Bridges, Platform Extensions and Station Upgrades. The growth has been prompted by the appointment of a fantastic Business Development Director that has not only expanded the service offering to existing clients like Network Rail and Train Operating Companies but also Railway Contractors.

You will be working directly under the Structural Director in Amersham and be the second in command as they look to build a specialist rail team around you to deliver this new found growth. They expect that their will be over 20 hires in the rail team that currently is at 6 engineers and you would be pivotal to that and have direct control of the growth.

In order to be successful in your application to this Associate position you will need to be a Chartered Engineer with significant experience leading Rail Structures projects and show an expert knowledge of UK & NR standards in order to be successful in your application.

Associate Rail (Structures) Engineer Main Duties

  • Local management of people, projects and clients reporting through their discipline and office.
  • Promote their rail sector services both within and external to the consultancy.
  • Preparation of railway technical approval submissions in accordance with NR/L2/CIV/003 and in accordance with Network Rail Company Standards.
  • Preparation of civil and structural engineering designs using manual calculations and industry standard software.
  • Liaise and communicate with clients and external agencies i.e. Network Rail, Environment Agency, Regional Highway Authorities and Sewerage authorities etc.
  • Represent the consultancy at meetings and in writing when required and attend site to undertake surveys and inspections.
  • Control the programmed performance of projects.
  • Overseeing the preparation of drawings by technicians.
  • Preparation of structural reports on buildings and other structures

Associate Rail (Structures) Engineer Requirements

  • Relevant experience and degree in an appropriate discipline and working towards membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, or similar learned society/professional body.
  • Experience of managing a design team and successful track record of delivering projects.
  • Conversant with Network Rail Company Standards and Railway Group Standards.
  • Working knowledge of relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • PTS & DCCR certification preferred. Training will be given to the right candidate if required.
  • Willingness to work occasional weekend and night shifts for the purpose of surveys and inspections.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage own projects and resources within agreed time scales.
  • Ability to manage the workload of your team including graduate engineers and technicians.
  • Have a commercial understanding of fee management.
