Our Client, a World recognised and respected Automotive OEM Manufacturer based in South Wales are actively seeking a talented Senior Group Maintenance Leader on a permanent basis. In this role, you will be responsible for coaching and mentoring all direct reports, creating an environment of genuine employee empowerment to achieve ‘World Class’ standards. You will additionally be there to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the plant to support all safety and production requirements and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects involved with the maintenance of the entire site, building a strong and flexible maintenance team that can adapt to the ever-changing world of manufacturing. 

This position operates on a 3 shift rotating basis (earlies, lates and nights). On offer to the successful candidate is a competitive, albeit negotiable basic salary, together with 22.5% shift allowance and full benefits.

Your duties and responsibilities will be:
  • Maintaining all manufacturing plant, equipment and facilities to a high standard and good working order. Improve equipment reliability by increasing the mean time between failures (MTBF) while reducing the mean time to repair.
  • Continuously improving all areas of operations including quality, schedule achievement, cost, and people development.
  • Planning and co-ordinating manufacturing operations within areas of responsibility.
  • Monitoring, controlling and maintaining the quality level within the areas of responsibility to the company quality standards ensuring that the customer (internal and external) is protected.
  • Ensure that the departmental area of responsibility can function at all times in terms of labour, consumable materials and maintained equipment in order to achieve the required volume and quality levels.
  • Motivate, support, and lead the team through coaching and mentoring.
  • Achieve required performance in areas of housekeeping, waste management, and compliance to safety and environmental legislation.
  • Control all waste to meet departmental budgets ensuring cost effective use of both company and natural resources.
  • Enable the team to set work standards / processes, implement assignments / labour loading and achieve production targets.
  • Facilitate the removal of non-value-added work within the manufacturing team in line with company improvement processes (including Six Sigma, Kaizen).
  • Facilitate team measurement of performance in line with departmental measurables, enabling the team to work on problem resolution and customer protection.
  • Plan labour requirements and ensure procedures are followed to recruit labour.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
  • Should ideally have a practical level qualification – e.g., an NVQ, apprenticeship in manufacturing, engineering, mechanical, although plenty of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Should be an experienced Maintenance Leader of Maintenance Manager who has worked in manufacturing environments.
  • The job requires team leadership and team development experience in the understanding of technician range of skills that are required within the area.
  • Coaching and mentoring experience to enable effective team morale and performance is required.
  • You should be able to identify team strengths and weaknesses and facilitate training needs.
  • This role requires a degree of business acumen to enable team reporting systems and procedures to operate effectively. 
  • You will need experience of ‘lean Manufacturing’ tools and techniques.
  • You will have the ability to use diagnostic skills to determine faults and lead a team in the rectification of such faults.
  • It is required that you will have or be willing to undertake in Kaizen, Industrial Engineering, Quality and Process Management, Disciplinary procedure understanding as well as ISO 14001 appreciation.
  • You need to be Computer Literate and be flexible to work shifts.
It’s great if you also have the following:
  • Experience working as a Group Maintenance Leader within an Automotive manufacturing environment, although this isn’t necessarily essential.
