A skilled and driven Engineer / Machinist is needed to join our team at OCS Automotive Engineering based in Winchester on a full-time basis. 

We are an engine remanufacturing machine shop offering our customers a full range of engine machining facilities, crankshaft grinding, cylinder head reconditioning, cylinder block boring, and honing. 

Due to continuous growth, we seek a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our highly successful team. Training will be given in-house.

About the Role

This position will involve the reconditioning of all types of engines, ranging from everyday cars to agricultural equipment. Duties will involve using reboring, cylinder honing, crank balancing, and other machines.

Working hours are 8 am - 5 pm, Monday to Friday (early finish at 3.45 pm on Fridays).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and refine component designs for automotive applications, utilising CAD software and engineering principles
  • Operate various machinery, including CNC machines, lathes, and mills, to produce precise automotive parts
  • Conduct rigorous quality checks to ensure all parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards
  • Build and test prototypes to evaluate performance, durability, and safety, making necessary adjustments based on findings
  • Continuously seek ways to improve manufacturing processes for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality
  • Work closely with other engineers, designers, and production staff to ensure cohesive project execution and troubleshoot issues
  • Maintain detailed records of designs, modifications, test results, and production methodologies
  • Oversee and conduct regular maintenance of machinery and tools to ensure optimal functioning and safety in the workshop

Required Skills:

  • Profound understanding of mechanical concepts and processes, particularly in automotive engineering
  • Proficiency in operating various machining tools, such as CNC machines, lathes, and mills, with a focus on precision
  • Ability to read and create technical drawings and use CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software for design and fabrication
  • Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve machining or engineering issues
  • A keen eye for detail is essential in the creation and inspection of automotive parts
  • Good grasp of mathematics and physics principles, which are crucial in machining and engineering
  • Effective communication abilities for collaborating with team members and understanding project requirements
  • Understanding of quality standards and experience in quality assurance processes to ensure automotive components meet the required specifications
