Position Purpose:

The role of the Welding Inspector is to assist in setting up quality procedures, conduct quality control on manufactured and bought in parts, coordinate welding inspections and the administration of traceability documentation. The role provides visible support and presence on the shop floor, supporting the manufacturing team, and playing a significant role in aiding the Design team in the early phases of project development.

Main Outcomes of the Position:

  • Ensure that the Factory Control Processes are observed, always, during manufacture, production and the day to day running of the workshop.
  • Completing visual weld inspections specific to project & EN standards
  • Ensure that quality control and assurance is maintained to the prescribed standards, ensuring Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) targets are met whilst organising third party testing when required.
  • Provide quality assurance documentation to clients where applicable.
  • Perform routine quality inspection on welded assemblies, machined components & bought out parts.
  • Collaborate with the Welding Eng and broader manufacturing group to drive ongoing quality improvements, ensuring that initiatives are established and consistently achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Resolving shop floor queries by consulting with other departments
  • Supports annual audits of EN1090.
  • Supports internal audits across all ISO accreditations.
  • Organise inspection and testing to correct specification.
  • Co-ordinate activity and provide support for a team of welders/operation staff.
  • Management of materials; provide specifications for materials and provides a technical review of requirements.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and/or calibration of welding equipment as well as any LEV / Extraction onsite.
  • Ensure team adhere to workshop policy and procedures, take appropriate action for non-conformance, and put corrective actions in place where necessary.
  • Work with QHSE to ensure calibration & Inspection of measuring and testing equipment is maintained.
  • Conduct Right First Time (RFT) inspections within the machine and welding shop to facilitate data acquisition for KPIs.
  • Ensure that welding processes are conducted efficiently, safely and in compliance with industry standards and project specification.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality of welding work, conduct pre, during and post welding inspections, and initiate corrective actions as necessary.
  • Support Welding Eng in developing welding procedures to meet project requirements.
  • Maintain records of welding activities, including inspection, tests, and quality control measures.
  • Conducting on site weld tests for potential new starters to ensure they can achieve the required site standards.
  • Ensure conformity to the day-to-day health and safety of the workshop.
  • Weekly update of KPIs
  • QC all manufacturing processes and document necessary information
  • Support process improvements through testing and quality assurance processes.
