Front-End Developer

Location:
Gloucester
As a Front-End Software Developer, you’ll perform full end to end development from design, implementation, through to testing and deployment of a user interface to a system that allows our customers to keep the nation safe.
This isn’t developing UI that links to a back end letting you know how long your takeaway will take to arrive; its developing software and solving problems for mission critical applications. Your work will help keep the country safe.
Because it’s not about sitting on your own at home, coding all day; you’ll want to collaborate with like-minded individuals whilst creating wireframes and story boards that deliver intuitive products whilst innovating to improve user experience.
Roke are a leading technology & engineering company with clients spanning National Security, Defence and Industry 4.0 through our Futures business. You will work alongside our customers to solve their complex and unique challenges.
As our next Front-End Software Developer you’ll provide technical leadership within the UI team, conducting analysis to understand the impact of design; whilst also defining workflows, interactions and UI specifications in close collaboration with product owners, end users and the development team.
The Key Requirements...
An exposure to some, but not all of the below (that would be an ideal);
  • Development experience using reactive Javascript frameworks (e.g. Reach, Vue).
  • Developing UI tests utilising tools such Selenium, Jest or Cypress.
  • Javascript tooling and deployment (e.g. Npm, ESLint, Babel, Prettier).
  • Module Bundlers (esbuild, parcel, vite, webpack).
  • Responsive design and UI frameworks (e.g. Material UI) including cross browser compatibility.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and specifications such as WCAG, WAI-ARIA etc.
  • CI pipelines (e.g. Gitlab CI).
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Any UX experience including Wireframing, Story boarding using tools such as Figma, and user testing.

Built on a 60-year heritage, Roke offers specialist knowledge in sensors, communications, cyber, and AI. We change the way organisations think and act – through dynamic insights from the analysis of multiple layers of data. We take care of the innovative, technical stuff that keeps everyone safe – that’s our mission, passion, and motivation.
Joining a team united by purpose and ambition, you’ll be at the heart of an exciting growth journey: we intend to double our headcount by 2027. At Roke, every individual counts. We push technical boundaries, together. We re-invest in product innovation, and we empower our people to make a difference.
With us you’ll be working in a dynamic, forward facing business; where you have the time, trust and freedom to deliver imaginative solutions. You will protect people, platforms, missions and information against constantly changing threats; by bringing the physical and the digital together.
