An exciting new opening has arisen within the Manufacturing Engineering team, inviting a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join. This role presents a chance to expand your expertise in manufacturing, nurturing your professional development for future opportunities. Engaging in tasks like Industrial Validation, crafting manufacturing architecture, and implementing principles for the factory of the future offers ambitious challenges to foster your growth in this field.

Here's what we're looking for from you:

Working closely with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you'll take on a multifaceted role involving leadership and technical responsibilities across various projects and manufacturing tasks. Specifically:

  • Support Senior Manufacturing Engineers: Assist them in their daily technical duties, providing guidance and expertise as needed.
  • Team Leadership: Take charge of managing the team's workload, setting priorities, and addressing key challenges to ensure timely delivery. This includes managing team dynamics, handling absences, conducting performance appraisals, facilitating discussions, and representing the team in business forums.
  • Facilitate Growth and Efficiency: Support the growth and efficiency of the manufacturing area, contributing to rate increases and promoting continuous improvement initiatives within the team and organisation.
  • Appraisal Process: Participate in the appraisal process to evaluate team members' contributions Participate in the appraisal process to evaluate team members' contributions.
  • Industrial Validation Management: Oversee the industrial validation process, utilising tools such as FMEA's and process proving activities, ensuring up-to-date dashboards and compliance.
  • Manufacturing Architecture: Define manufacturing architecture aligned with lean principles, and develop business cases for process improvements and future factory concepts.
  • Configuration Control: Ensure proper management of configuration control by updating manufacturing documentation and industrial validation processes in line with design
  • Non-Conformance Process: Provide support for the non-conformance process, addressing and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Safe Operating Implementation: Take responsibility for implementing safe operating procedures for changed processes, coordinating with relevant assessors and stakeholders.
  • Interface with Design Authority: Collaborate with the design authority during product development phases to optimise Design for Manufacture (DfM), and during production phases for effective change implementation.
  • Documentation Management: Lead the team in updating Manufacturing Instructions and maintaining production Bills of Materials (BOMs) in accordance with the master production schedule (MPS).

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership acumen, and a proactive approach to driving efficiency and excellence within the manufacturing team.

Here are the requirements for the role in terms of skills, training, and qualifications:

  • Formal Technical Qualification: Completion of a formal technical Engineering/Craft Apprenticeship up to NVQ Level 3/TR23/TR21.
  • Further Education Certificate: Possession of a formal further education certificate to HNC level or equivalent in a relevant subject. Alternatively, a BEng in a relevant Engineering Degree would
  • Self-Supervision: Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, showcasing high levels of motivation and enthusiasm to foster a high-performing team environment.
  • Communication Skills: Act as a recognised point of contact for manufacturing inquiries within the team, necessitating strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with
  • Problem Solving Skills: Display a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong commitment to meeting delivery milestones.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in interpreting Design Drawings to produce Manufacturing Build Instructions is essential for this role.
  • Leadership Abilities: Possess confidence in people leadership, capable of conducting effective team and individual discussions to drive performance.
  • Digital Literacy: Awareness of digital communication platforms and the ability to work and communicate effectively within the workplace using such tools.

These qualifications and skills form the foundation for success in the role, ensuring the ability to contribute effectively to the team and meet the demands of the manufacturing environment.
