Overall Purpose of the Role:

As a Principal Systems Engineer specialising in Lightning Aircraft Platforms, you'll lead technical initiatives to drive our Air Engineering Services Integrated Delivery Team's objectives forward. Collaborating closely with Project and Programme Management, you'll deliver a diverse range of evaluation, certification, test, consultancy, and technical support outputs within the Air Domain.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead and manage Project and Programme engineering teams to deliver complex integrated engineering outputs aligned with customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with Resource Management to assign technical work tasks effectively.
  • Act as a Technical Leader ensuring high-quality technical output within set timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Ensure consistent application of technical processes, methods, and tools in line with our Operating Framework.
  • Assure the quality of engineering integrated outputs and compliance with Technical Delivery Plans.
  • Capture and analyse Customer requirements to generate System Requirements.
  • Coordinate technical aspects of bids, including delivery planning and estimates.
  • Identify and manage project technical risks and mitigations.
  • Ensure adherence to Operating Framework business processes and engineering governance.

This is a full - time, permanent position with flexible working arrangements. However, we will be open to hearing from conractors or those seeking a fixed - term contract who can commit to work supporting 6 months pllus.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Recognised aerospace qualification to at least HND standard.
  • Further learning and relevant training in air systems and engineering.
  • Professional Registration at Incorporated or Chartered level with an Engineering Institution.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Significant technical experience of military Lightning Aircraft Platforms and the air vehicle life cycle.
  • Experience with system engineering toolsets such as IBM DOORS, MBSE, V & V.
  • Knowledge of engineering governance and aerospace certification and regulation.
  • Understanding of the military and civil aerospace industry.

Desirable:

  • Engineering degree.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Knowledge of UK MOD customer and MOD Procurement process.
  • Knowledge of MAA RA1220 and EASA Part 21.
  • Experience in developing aerospace technology.
  • Knowledge and experience of MAA DAOS.
