Graduate Structural Engineer

£27,000 - £35000 depending on level of experience

Our client is a new but fast growing Structural and Civil Engineering Consultancy based on the North Staffordshire / South Cheshire border. They are a dynamic company that puts clients' first, so it is essential that you have a flexible approach with a can-do attitude. Due to continued expansion and growing order book, they have a Graduate position available.

This role would suit someone with experience who is keen to progress their career, develop new skills and take more responsibility. Not only will you be responsible for the day-to-day tasks associated with the role, for the right person, there is the opportunity to progress into a senior position and grow with the business. You will need to be able to effectively communicate with colleagues at all levels within the organisation to understand the engineering approach as well as applying your own initiative and autonomy to ensure that client expectations are met. The role will require a keen eye for detail and a willingness to challenge the status quo and explore new workflows to ensure designs are completed efficiently and accurately.

Key responsibilities:

•           Use of technical skills and knowledge to provide conceptual design appraisals and appropriate solutions.

•           Using computational software to deliver design calculations, models, reports, and presentations to an excellent standard.

•           Peer review and calculation checks of computational outputs.

•           Ensuring projects meet legal, environmental and industry standards.

•           Advising on suitable materials with an understanding of their properties and embodied carbon.

•           Advising on building repairs, adaptions, or demolition.

•           Assisting in the review and preparation of tender information.

•           Working with other designers to develop projects.

•           Managing workload and monitoring project performance and progress.

•           Maintain your continued professional development.

•           To provide suitable markup information for Technician or produce own CAD drawings.

•           Explore the potential for standardisation and best practice design.

•           Self-directed study and progression of skills to bring innovation and continued improvement and technical development to the company.

•           Bi-monthly skills sharing day with the Managing Director on skills learnt, new practices and ideas and an opportunity to learn additional skills.

Required Skills and Experience:

•           Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering.  Min 2:2 or above.

•           Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

•           Knowledge of building and construction methods.

•           Strong IT skills with experience of Microsoft programmes & apps.

•           Familiarity with AutoCAD.

•           Ability to work alone & thrive as part of a team.

•           Flexible approach.

•           Creative and artistic skills would benefit the role with a good conceptual vision. 

•           Knowledge of Building Regulations, British and European codes of practice.

Preferred skills:

•           Building structures design experience.

•           Experience on live projects.

•           Experience using common analysis software (including or similar to TEDDS, ROBOT, TEKLA) and willing to learn to use new analysis packages as required.

•           Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

•           Knowledge of building and construction methods.

•           Strong IT skills with experience of Microsoft programmes & apps.

•           Ability to work alone & thrive as part of a team.

•           Flexible approach.

•           Creative and artistic skills would benefit the role with a good conceptual vision. 

•           Working towards professional recognition.

Competitive salary.

25 days holiday per annum.  Increasing by 1 day a year after 3 years to a maximum of 30 days.
