Gi Group is excited to be working in partnership with a Manufacturing business based in Tamworth who are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Engineering team. We are looking for an experienced, professional and confident mechanical Design Engineer to implement changes to our current product range but also be a key player in creating new products. The employee is to work under the direction of the Senior Technical Manager and Managing Director bringing new concepts to life and maybe bringing your own ideas to the table. You will be supporting our growing team that is producing equipment for automotive, aerospace and surface coating industries and additional general manufacturing and military applications.

Key responsibilities for a Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • As Part of the Technical Team, designing future portfolio of machinery which will include the development of our standard range but also Walk/Drive in Testing Rooms.
  • Creation of working model concept and final designs.
  • Failure Mode Analysis of Design.
  • Ensuring compliance met with all relevant machinery and safety legislation in regard to design of machinery.
  • Assisting the Technical Team with all associated Risk Assessments.
  • Resourcing and specification of suitable materials and suppliers.
  • Continued improvements of current range of test equipment.
  • As part of a design team creating Product specifications and managing the Product design life cycle.
  • Create R&D prototype drawings and drawings suitable for Production.
  • Good 3D modeling and 2D draughting skills required in Autocad Inventor.
  • Ability to interpret concepts and ideas from design / Production / Sales and realize them into working models and drawings.
  • Resourcing of component parts.
  • Strong IT skills required as ownership of the design package and hardware will be responsibility of the employee.
  • Excellent documentation skills and understanding and ability to work to design change procedures.
  • Ability to work to own initiative as well as being a strong team player.
  • Employee must show a willing can-do attitude to get the end objective done which may take him outside the job description as laid out above.
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering, Sheet metal, manufacturing processes and pneumatics.
  • Working knowledge of plastics would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of thermal shock of materials would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of temperature probes and refrigeration / heating would be an advantage.
