A nationwide, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy are looking for a Chartered or near-Chartered Senior Structural Engineer with an interest in building appraisal and structural investigation to join them in their Head Office in Manchester City Centre.


The company have 6 offices across the UK and their Manchester office is their Head Office and consists of Structural Engineer and Building Surveyors who are well-known for their expertise in complex civil & structural engineering, building facades, defect diagnosis, insurance claims and historic buildings.

The right Senior Structural Engineer candidate for this role will have a minimum of 6+ years' industry experience in a consultancy environment and be well-versed in site visits and client liaison. This is an excellent role for someone who is stimulated by getting out of the office and away from behind a computer screen.

There will of course still be an element of design engineering on both new-build and refurb projects amongst various sectors.

The company also provide an extremely flexible working-from-home arrangement for this role and you may only be required in the office a couple of times per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake thorough site investigations, complete inspections, and identify and resolve any issues as appropriate.
  • Undertake project design from commencement to completion.
  • Represent the company at design team meetings.
  • Manage, encourage, support and motivate junior Engineers and Technicians in the process of project design.
  • Undertake appropriate Continuing Professional Development and maintain CPD records in accordance with the requirements of the Institution of Structural Engineers and/or the Institution of Civil Engineers.
  • Deliver high-quality designs, drawings, and reports using engineering materials including concrete, steel, masonry, timber, etc., together with soils, foundations and drainage, and in a form that can readily be checked by another member of staff.


Other responsibilities will include:

  • Manage your pool of resources effectively and efficiently to ensure successful outcomes for all projects under your remit.
  • Recognise the importance of clear communication with all members of the design and/or construction team regarding matters of structural safety, and keep up-to-date with information provided by CROSS (Collaborative Reporting for Safer Structures (see (url removed)/uk).


This role is paying £45,000 - £55,000 plus benefits for the right person and will depend on experience and Chartership (IStructE/ICE).
