We are working with a growing ground mounted solar business in the UK who are looking to expand their team based on the volume of pipeline activity present in the business.

The aim of the role is to manage the conceptualisation and design of ground mounted projects, integrating aesthetic considerations with technical feasibility. The applicant could be a senior Solar Design Engineer, an operations specialist or project manager who is aware of the design characteristics of utility scale developments with some technical understanding of the tools required to develop the feasibility studies.

The main objectives of the role are:-

• Collaboration with the Concept Design and Development teams to ensure that master drawings align with technical specifications, feasibility studies and structural requirements

• Oversee the creation of AutoCAD designs for the Development team and assist with planning submissions (including layout, elevations, etc)

• Infuse sustainable design principles into solar & battery projects, emphasising environmental impact reduction, biodiversity promotion and community integration

• Working with consultants and suppliers to gather product information and incorporate it into the designs with a view to improving quality

• Stay abreast of local and national regulations related to solar farms and engineering, ensuring all conceptual designs adhere to regulatory requirements and obtain necessary approvals

• Provide creative and technical direction and mentorship to junior members of the Concept Design team, collaborating with project managers to establish timelines, milestones and deliverables

• Explore emerging technologies and design trends in the solar and battery industry, integrating these into design concepts to maintain a competitive edge

Candidates should be able to:-

  • Able to work in the UK without sponsorship

• Strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to translate complex technically compliant concepts into visually compelling designs

• Proven experience in sustainable design practices and a passion for promoting environmentally friendly solutions,

• Ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of market-leading software packages to a proficient level (must include Helioscope, AutoCAD, PVSyst)

• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the technical and design elements of both solar and battery storage systems

• Conversant with substation, PV and battery layouts, including access roads, turning circles, laydown areas and general arrangement drawings

• Conversant with International and UK design standards for solar PV systems, for example, IEC TC82, IEC 62548:2023

• Ability to manage multiple workstreams and support consultants simultaneously

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate design decisions and concepts

• Competency with Microsoft software alongside Adobe design software and similar tools

• Calm under pressure while retaining the ability to make professional decisions

Applicants should be familiar with the challenges of solar photovoltaic and battery systems

• A strong understanding of solar photovoltaic design and the standards that govern it

• Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of standard industry layout and design software packages, e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS, PVcase

• Experience in online mapping systems

• Ability to maintain and strengthen relationships with technical suppliers

• ISO 9001 compliance implementation (including document and version control)

• Familiarity with Business Management systems

• Experience of managing a design team
