About the role

In your role as Cyber Security Engineer you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity to play an integral part in ensuring that all USS systems are Securely implemented and maintained.

​They will have a strong awareness of the cyber security threat landscape, SIEM tools, firewalls and boundary controls coupled with excellent troubleshooting and investigating skills. They will have a comprehensive understanding of threat analysis and cyber threat intelligence, the ability to look at complex threats and be confident
regarding forensic analysis and surrounding techniques.

What you will be doing

As a trusted part of the IT you will be responsible for:

  • Support, maintain, develop, and govern all security platforms (e.g., SIEM, NAC, Firewalls) to ensure robust security infrastructure
  • Respond to security incidents, alerts, and exceptions following established procedures
  • Conduct advanced analysis of network, endpoint, and logs to identify and remediate security incidents
  • Generate regular vulnerability reports to demonstrate compliance and security posture
  • Track cyber threats, analyse data, and take action to mitigate identified risks
  • Provide support for vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, and compliance monitoring
  • Lead remediation efforts for system vulnerabilities through patching and updates across platforms
  • Integrate security into BAU processes and develop standardised procedures
  • Collaborate with internal teams to maintain acceptable security posture and certifications
  • Stay proactive in addressing emerging threats, gathering information to ensure security status, and engage with stakeholders for effective communication and prioritisation of work

About you

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Strong experience and knowledge of using Security Information and Event Management tools
  • Strong experience and knowledge of implementing and supporting Network Access Control
  • Strong experience and knowledge of advanced detection and response systems
  • Familiarity with security vulnerabilities, exploits, malware, and digital forensics
  • Strong understand of Network, Data Centre and WebApp security
  • Strong understanding of the cyber threat landscape
  • Experience conducting analysis/investigation and containment of potential data breaches or cyber security incidents
  • Experience and knowledge of implementing and supporting Next Gen Firewalls
  • Fundamental understanding of Enterprise IT technologies such as Wintel OS & Services, Networking and Cloud Concepts
