This is a very exciting opportunity for a thermal lead engineer to be the technical authority and thermal expert across the business group; leading a team of thermal engineers on the design, analysis and integration of thermal management systems i.e. HVAC systems for vehicles.

The purpose of this role is to lead the design and development of HVAC thermal management solutions. This will include the thermal analysis of new systems and components and supporting the design of HVAC systems to improve human comfort across global regions – India, China, USA, Brazil etc.

Required - Thermal Engineer:

  • Experience of thermal management solutions (e.g., heat sinks, cooling fins, liquid and air cooling etc) with good exposure to mechanical engineering and analysis principles
  • Strong knowledge of thermal analysis / CFD modelling and analysis tools (e.g., Ansys Fluent, Altair, Flotherm, Icepak etc)
  • Good understanding of thermodynamic principles, CFD (air cooling, liquid cooling, etc)
  • Excellent understanding of HVAC systems, Refrigeration, Heat pumps, coolants etc with the ability to apply knowledge to a range of applications and countries

Skills / Knowledge- Thermal Engineer:

  • Ideally a Masters degree or similar in a relevant subject (e.g., mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, etc)
  • Experience of HVAC / refrigeration thermal management solutions (e.g., heat exchangers, cooling fins, compressors, thermofluids etc)
  • Proven leadership / management skills with an ability to present new ideas with conviction and hold your own in design meetings
  • Use of CAE tools for thermal analysis and 1D simulation – Amesim, Altair, Ansys Fluent, Hypermesh, FloTHERM etc
  • Able to lead and drive HVAC projects in a fast-paced environment in conjunction with global R&D teams
  • An understanding of commercial and technical standards for global cooling/heating systems would be ideal
  • Knowledge of interfacing with electronics, ECUs, battery systems etc would be useful

This Thermal Engineer role is based onsite 5 days a week and commutable from Stoke-on-Trent, Derby, Stafford, Uttoxeter, Burton-upon-Trent Ashbourne, Lichfield etc.
