Commercial Project Manager

Our client is an international specialist in the subsea environment. They design, engineer and manufacture technologies that enable customers to discover, navigate, measure, detect and communicate in the toughest environment on earth: Our oceans.

Purpose of the role

Provide commercial management and guidance to the Projects Group in order to deliver efficient operations and profitability and to ensure that it continues to provide significant and increasing commercial value to the business. Integral to this role will be the oversight and contribution to the compilation of commercial and contractual factors during the bid process and the continued monitoring and assurance of individual project and department performance. Also provide a degree of external focus to support Sales in the investigation and pursuit of potential new project opportunities, markets, services and applications that have the potential to provide additional value to the business.

The Role and Role Specific Competencies

Commercial Management of the Projects Group:

  • Provide financial project management, cost control, expenditure and cost to complete monitoring across all active projects.
  • Provide management and oversight for Contractual obligations for major and complex projects.
  • Formulation, administration and monitoring of yearly Project Group cost centre budgets and yearly expenditure in liaison with Head of Custom Projects and Principal Project Manager and Projects Director Quarterly performance against budget reporting.
  • Development and reporting of financial Key Performance Indicators in relation to Project Group performance in order to support effective decision making and planning.
  • Liaison with Finance department on financial performance reporting requirements, management and timing of project invoices and revenue recognition etc.
  • Work with the Head of Custom Projects and Principal Project Manager and Projects Director to develop a process of efficient handover of project opportunities from Sales to the Project Delivery teams. To provide continuing assurance that this process is working and fit for purpose, and to provide active input when required.
  • To act as one of the Project Group senior management team in key decision making for the department and in the representation of the department at internal and external meetings.

Support to Sales and Business Development:

  • Provide support in the creation of budgets, contracting/negotiations, risk management, management of change, for individual projects during bidding and delivery, specifically when support is requested by Sales.
  • Quarterly forecasting support for order intake (led by Projects Director) and invoicing (Led by Commercial Director and Director of Sales) for future project related activities in all markets and regions.
  • Provide a degree of external focus to support Sales in the targeted investigation and pursuit of potential new project opportunities, markets, services and applications that have the potential to provide additional value to the business.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Fluent verbal and written communication in English language, Articulate in technical communication.
  • Excellent client-facing, relationship building and internal communications skills demonstratable.
  • Experience in managing projects with multi-stakeholders from Academic and Commercial business sectors with knowledge of operational activities in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Extensive project management expertise and experience involving complex direct customer liaison and internal departmental co-ordination/delivery.

Desirable

  • Technical appreciation and practical working knowledge of subsea systems and technologies.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification/experience with significant commercial project delivery experience of systems within a design and manufacturing led environment.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project etc.)
