Electrical Engineer – Power & Distribution (HV)

Location - Teesside

Length of contract: 6-12 months (likely extension)

£300 - £400 per day - DOE (Ltd co. outside IR35)

HV Power & Distribution / Substations / Switchgear / process plant

I am working with a key client in the Teesside area who are a global organisation, and that supply their product to the global marketplace. They operate a complex large, industrial process plant consisting of a heavy and hazardous high risk engineering environment.

They are looking for a n Electrical (HV) Engineer to support their complex site Power & distribution projects, overseeing HV upgrades. You will offer guidance, direction, and strategic solutions to projects, and ensuring programmes are implemented and delivered.

For the position of Electrical Engineer, you will require to conduct the following duties:

  • Report to the Head of Electrical, provide Leadership, guidance, and delivery
  • Conduct all HV & Power & Distribution (up to 33kv) duties related projects and upgrades, monitoring and looking at standards, and competency framework
  • Manage projects including replacement of a substation (High Voltage 11kv-33kv), as well as major projects on capital equipment such as transformers and switchgear
  • Adhering to all electrical industry standards and legislation within a heavy engineering high risk environment
  • Support Electrical team, consisting of Electrical Lead/Section Engineers, Supervisors and Technicians
  • Technical support where required to day-to-day operations
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders internally and externally, including suppliers and specialist sub-contractors
  • Assessing potential Major hazards – Overseeing assessments of hazards & risk
  • Completion of projects through delivery, commission, and final hand over

The successful Electrical Engineer will need to have the following attributes:

  • HND/Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
  • HV Responsible or Authorised Engineer experience (Up to 33kv)
  • Previous heavy process engineering / large complex industrial site
  • Electrical Power & Distribution experience
  • Process controls appreciation – SCADA etc
  • Continuous Improvement (six sigma etc)
  • Proven problem solver
  • Project Engineering or management experience
  • Strong communicator and proactive – a ‘do-er’
  • I.T / computer skills, MS Office / Outlook / MRP systems (SAP advantageous)
  • Required to work on-site, 5 days per week
