Principal Mechanical Engineer

Our client is a highly successful advanced manufacturer with particular expertise in electro-mechanical assembly. They are currently recruiting for a Principle Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team based in Northumberland.

As Principle Mechanical Design Engineer, you will have the responsibility for ensuring that all products that the company manufacture have the appropriate level of design, engineering and innovation. This will allow you to be diligent, yet creative, product and process focused, and work collaboratively with other functions.

About the Principle Mechanical Design Engineer Role

As Principle Mechanical Design Engineer, not only will you be working with customers, internally and other stakeholders to plan and deliver the appropriate levels of design, engineering and innovation for all company products, but you will also have the opportunity to monitor, guide and mentor apprentices, technicians and engineers to assist in the delivery of mechanical applications designs.

Other requirements for the Principle Mechanical Design Engineer will include:

  • Ensure that the company have defined “minimum requirements” and “appropriate practices” for mechanical applications design process/standards to ensure design is integrated, lean, effective, works collaboratively with all disciplines and has the highest probability of right 1st time.

  • Provide the intellectual horsepower to solve the most challenging of technical opportunities as they present themselves.

  • Provide support at bid and concept development stage to ensure mechanical design challenges and risks are understood and accounted for.

  • Champion, guide and develop the department’s continuous improvement, outputs, interactions and growth.

About You

The successful Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will be a flexible and adaptable individual who has significant experience in leading and delivering a range of mechanical products/systems/solutions in a positive authority.

Other requirements for the Principle Mechanical Design Engineer includes:

  • Chartered Engineer, CEng, or actively working towards.

  • Experience of operating in a diverse range of industries/sectors.

  • The ability to deliver a multitude of tasks across a broad range of timescales.

  • The ability to plan prioritise and coordinate effectively.

  • Previous experience in a Principle Design Engineer's role.
