Our client is a global engineering business with multiple sites in the North East. They are currently looking for a Commercial Officer/Quantity Surveyor to join them on a permanent basis.

This role will offer a Quantity Surveyor the opportunity to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application specifically in the application of construction law knowledge. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the commercial viability of each project, while also ensuring strict adherence to relevant legislation and regulations.

You will be joining their site based in Blyth.

About the Commercial Officer / Quantity Surveyor Role

As Commercial Officer / Quantity Surveyor, you will report to the Project Manager and be responsible for assisting the Project Manager to deliver projects within their specification, time and cost restraints.

Other responsibilities of the Commercial Officer / Quantity Surveyor include:

  • Support the delivery of projects in line with the contractual obligations, the specification and the quality/safety requirements, in order to maintain or better the baseline budget and schedule.

  • Take responsibility for the prioritising and expediting of elements of the project, including procurement, contract management, acceptance and delivery.

  • Take responsibility for contract managing and expediting one or more major subcontracts, delivering equipment to company specifications, including the management of changes and commercial control.

  • Co-ordinate purchasing activities, as agreed with the Project Manager, ensuring orders placed are on agreed terms, with management of those terms throughout.

  • Manage the risk management and cost control processes.

  • Creation and updating of Subcontractor and Main Contract final accounts.

About You

The successful Commercial Officer will be a graduate in Quantity Surveying with at least 1 year of experience in a Construction and/or Engineering environment. You will have an excellent understanding of contract and commercial principles and processes and be flexible and knowledgeable, able to work across disciplines and share ideas.

Other requirements of the Commercial Officer / Quantity Surveyor include:

  • Knowledge of contract management mythologies.

  • Theoretical or practical knowledge of construction law

  • An understanding of engineering concepts and construction processes.

  • Proficient user of software tools.

  • Educated to a Quantity Surveying degree level at a minimum.
