Test Engineer required for fast growing, progressive and successful international Aerospace Manufacturer.

Job Title:                     Hot Test Technician (Permanent)

Location:                     Westcott

Salary:                         £35000 - £40000 per annum plus benefits including parking

Hours of Work:           40 hours per week (Mon-Friday days)

Position working alongside the Senior Test Engineers and the Test Manager.

Immediate responsibilities will be primarily to act in the role of ‘B’ person to support the designated ‘A’ person during Hot Fire Testing programmes.

Roles and responsibilities during hot fire test include;

  • Safety – can react to issues with the engine or the test site
  • Support to hazardous operations.
  • Ensuring correct feedline pressures are set
  • Data Acquisition System set-up is correct.
  • Thermal imagining camera set-up is correct
  • Recorded firing data is reviewed.

The role is also expected to provide support to lead Test Engineers for site preparation and maintenance, propellant handling, propellant sampling and analysis, pressure and control systems checks, maintenance and operation of mechanical and steam vacuum systems, instrumentation calibrations, steam boiler maintenance and operation, collation and review of test data, etc.

Attributes

  • Experience of high-pressure gas and fluidic systems required.
  • Ability to interpret and understand Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Use of electrical and electronic measurement and testing equipment required.
  • Role will also involve working with and handling flight hardware – preparation of customer flight engines for test, including instrumentation, installation on to the test stand, removal post hot fire test, and subsequent engine decontamination activities, etc
  • Ability to interpret and follow standard operating procedures, work instructions and preparing and interpreting method statements. 
  • It is also expected that the role will support lead Test Engineers in implementing process improvements and site modifications and changes, such as changes to site propellant and pressurant systems, new panel builds and modifications, pipe bending and installation, install of new pressure and propellant vessels.
  • Mechanical fitter/practical engineering skills preferably gained from an apprenticeship or from within an engineering-related organisation.
  • Responsible approach to risk, and able to manage own workload.

Work Environment/Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Duties will be performed in a facility requiring the frequent use of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) and chemically resistant clothing to handle potentially hazardous substances and working with high pressure gas systems.
  • Some work with electronics and High Voltage equipment will be required.
  • Role will be required to pass a periodic basic medical examination.
  • Able to work in a safe and conscientious manner in areas with known hazards.
  • Manual handling
  • Ability to climb ladders and to work outdoors in all weathers.
  • Bending at waist, sitting, kneeling, climbing, walking, crouching
  • Working in high noise level environments requiring hearing protection
  • Working around lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning fluids, paints, and other chemicals.
  • Flexible outlook; will occasionally be required to work late, weekends etc.
