They are currently looking to strengthen their team with the recruitment of an Electrical Development Engineer based at their North East site in Gateshead.

About the Electrical Development Engineer

Reporting into the Chief Development Engineer, the Electrical Development Engineer will play a key role in testing and validating electric motors and powertrains at various stages of design and development.

You will use your expertise in areas such as electromagnetic analysis, thermal analysis, system commissioning, system integration, and failure analysis to ensure our products meet the highest quality standards and customer expectations.

You will also work closely with the design and manufacturing engineering teams to provide feedback and suggestions for design improvements and compliance.

Other requirements of the Electrical Development Engineer will include:

• Provide detailed input to the design and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure the product meets all the requirements, including relevant compliance, and make recommendations for product design changes, following a V-model approach.
• Generate and carry out electrical test procedures and plans for the Design Verification Plan including performance, thermal and electrical insulation system tests on motors and powertrain systems
• Generation and solving of electromagnetic finite element models for design optimisation, performance prediction and comparative analysis to real test data.
• Configuration of control systems within inverter hardware, working with the Power Electronics team on control optimization, and test on motors and powertrain systems.
• Completion of failure analysis following FRACAS and 8D processes to identify root cause and develop any design solutions required.

About You

As Electrical Development Engineer, you will be a degree educated Engineer with relevant industrial experience. You will have relevant industrial experience preferably in a high-volume development and production environment, ideally within Automotive.

Other requirements of the Electrical Development Engineer will include:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• A solid background in electrical design and test for electric motor systems.
• Have a self-start / pro-active approach to work independently in a cross functional team
• Have strong analytical skills with a good understanding of motor theory and simulation
• Previous knowledge of industry standard analysis & simulation software packages
• Some awareness of electromagnetic principles, motor control, sensor feedback, inverter hardware & communication standards
