Our client is a market leading innovator in electric technologies with a focus on providing sustainable products to a range of industries such as Automotive, Rail and Industrial. They are currently looking to strengthen their team with the recruitment of a Mechanical Development Engineer based at their North East site in Gateshead.

About the Mechanical Development Engineer

Reporting into the Chief Development Engineer, the Development Engineer will play a key role in testing and validating products at various stages of design and development.

You will use your expertise in areas such as rotating machines, engines or transmissions, NVH, thermal and structural analysis, materials, system integration, and failure analysis to ensure products meet the highest quality standards and customer expectations.

You will also work closely with the design and manufacturing engineering teams to provide feedback and suggestions for design improvements and compliance.

Other requirements of the Mechanical Development Engineer will include:

  • Provide detailed input to the design and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure the product meets all the requirements, including relevant compliance, and make recommendations for product design changes, following a V-model approach.
  • Generating and carrying out mechanical test procedures and plans for the Design Verification Plan including performance, thermal, vibration, NVH and mechanical durability on motors and powertrain systems, using the analysed results to influence any required design improvements.
  • Completion of failure analysis following FRACAS and 8D processes to identify root cause and develop any design solutions required.

About You

As Mechanical Development Engineer, you will be a degree educated Engineer with relevant industrial experience. You will have a fundamental technical understanding in your engineering field and a willingness to learn.

Other requirements of the Mechanical Development Engineer will include:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in test method creation, confidence in laboratory-based testing and validation of transmissions, rotating machinery or electric motors, and detailed data analysis is highly desirable.
