This role is suitable for candidates with previous experience as a Manufacturing Engineer with a proven background working in a machine shop with extensive knowledge of tooling, CNC machine tools including multi-tasking, 5 - axis, universal – grinding, gear grinding and shaping.


Key accountabilities:

  • • Working within the Continuous Improvement team you will ensure that all production orders are ‘machine ready’ to ensure schedule adherence.
  • • Proactively work alongside Manufacturing, Operations, Quality functions and suppliers to maintain and enhance processes.
  • • You will actively contribute to annual cost save, emissions reduction and shop floor recovery targets.

    Additional/special features of the role:
  • • Own, complete, report out and handover to operations any CI projects assigned to you.
  • • Maintain an active shop-floor presence promoting and encouraging lean principles.
  • • Reporting back and reacting to manufacturing issues from production and ad hoc meetings.
  • • Work alongside operations and manufacturing to ensure smooth NPI transition to production.
  • • Working alongside all other functions in DFM and PFMEA for new projects.
  • • Actively assist all CI team members in closing projects on time.
  • • Identify potential improvement activities.
  • • Support Operations with day to day issue resolution.
  • • Mentor and engage with operators to encourage an improvement culture.
  • • Maintain a Teamwork approach and actively share knowledge with peers.
  • • Liaise with Quality Engineers to ensure improvements to our Total Cost of Quality, On Time in Full, delivery and other KPIs.
  • • Act on key manufacturing performance metrics.
  • • Knowledge of niche volume manufacturing environment.
  • • Lean manufacturing skills, 8D, 5 Why and 6 sigma knowledge.
  • • Data analysis skills would be advantageous.
    • • Experience of machining a wide range of precision components with complex routings and multiple operations.


      Desirable Experience

      • Experience of working in a precision, small batch, low volume production environment (Automotive / Aerospace / Defence or similar industry).
        • Gear form manufacturing knowledge/experience.
        • Heat Treatment knowledge/experience.
        • CAD/CAM programming experience.
        • 3D modelling experience.
        • Multi spindle machining experience/knowledge.
