We exclusively represent a growing manufacturing organisation who specialise in the design and manufacture of a niche and highly innovative mechanical product range for a worldwide client base  

They seek to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a small team, to work both on new product design and the development of existing products to improve performance and reliability, in line their general desire to exceed customer expectations.

This varied position will involve working on the creation of detailed mechanical component and assembly designs using 3D CAD, specifically Solidworks, from initial technical specification and costing, through the detailed design process (to potentially include fixture/tooling design), customer and supplier liaison, test and delivery into production.

We seek the following:

• Apprentice trained and/or HNC/HND/Degree in mechanical engineering
• Some previous experience in a similar mechanical design engineering role, designing mechanical components and finished assemblies, including machined components
• Good understanding and practical application of geometric tolerancing
• Fluency in Solidworks or similar 3D CAD package
• Experience working with metal castings (steel, aluminium, iron) would be desirable
• A knowledge of tooling design would be useful
• Able to apply a structured approach to project deadlines, and juggle a varied workload in a fast paced, quick turnaround environment
• Displays strong commercial acumen and applies to the design process, enabling margins to be achieved
• German language skills highly desirable, as this role will support a German sister site with design projects
• Most importantly, the successful candidate will demonstrate good logic and pragmatism, exemplary customer focus, strong attention to detail, and an enthusiastic and proactive approach to all tasks
