An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled and experienced individual to join us in the capacity of Production Engineer.

At SEM, our Production Engineers oversee the manufacturing processes and provide technical support for all production engineering activities, whilst striving to continually drive improvements.  With a predominant focus on supporting our winding processes and equipment, we are ideally looking for someone with experience in that field.  Our Production Engineers support one another; meaning that there will be times when you would be asked to support other production areas within our business too.

Responsibilities include:

  • Promoting SEM Engineering best practice by promoting continuous improvement through Standard work, daily management and structured problem solving
  • Ensuring product and processes meet specifications required; taking ownership of the KPI’s for area of responsibility (SQDCP)
  • Providing robust and reliable troubleshooting advice in relation to engineering issues
  • Supporting and leading with new product and equipment introductions
  • Planning and organising maintenance/support of equipment, including repairs
  • Leading and participating in continuous improvement activities
  • Providing teams with meaningful and insightful data analysis
  • Providing guidance and training to team members
  • Updating work instructions to reflect new standards of work
  • Improving manufacturing efficiency by analysing and planning workflow, space and layout requirements and equipment layout
  • Filtering suggestions and requests for improvement; taking ownership for the task or project
  • Fostering good interdepartmental working relationships, encouraging the exchange of information and sharing of expertise between areas. 
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers and other service providers as and when required 

Our perfect Production Engineer would have:

  • Experience of motor manufacturing and operating/maintaining winding machinery (desirable)
  • Experience of new product introduction and project management is essential
  • Experience in CAPEX, specification and purchasing of new equipment
  • Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, 6S, FMEA and designing tooling and fixtures
  • Experience in handling machine and production equipment issues and breakdowns
  • A self-reliant approach with the ability to take the reins.  We’re looking for someone who is ready to roll up their sleeves and get involved
  • Effective prioritisation skills; the ability to multi-task and cope well under pressure whilst working on several projects at any one time.
  • A focus on the customer experience with the ability to handle challenging situations and difficult conversations whilst maintaining a diplomatic approach.  We need someone who isn’t afraid to make informed decisions on the basis of cost, efficiency, quality and business needs
  • Happy to listen and work as part of a team; collaborates and shares expertise with others
  • A structured and pragmatic approach to problem solving; using structured tools such as A3, 8D or DMAIC.
  • MS Office packages experience.  CAD software, PLC & Software programming/experience in diagnosing (ideal)

Qualifications

A Degree in Engineering (Industrial/Production, Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent (essential)

The hours you would work:

Monday to Thursday, 7.30am-4.15pm.  Friday, 7.30am-12.30pm or 3.15pm
