Gas Engineer - Upskill to Smart Meter Engineer

Are you a qualified Gas Engineer looking to be upskilled to become a fully qualified Dual Fuel Smart Meter Engineer? MPAAS are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for qualified and experienced gas engineers to join our upskill course.

Over the past 12 months we have gone through a huge period of growth, increasing our overall headcount by over 125%. With multiple Smart Metering contracts in both domestic and I&C metering along with our new EV department, it’s a great time to be joining MPAAS.

Once qualified, you will be traveling around a specific area fitting both gas and electric smart meters into customers homes on behalf of some of the largest energy suppliers in the UK. You will be given all tools and equipment needed to do the role including a company van, fuel card, mobile phone, tools etc.

Please be aware, for this course we are only accepting applicants in the following postcode areas, or who are bordering one of the below areas:

  • North London - N1, N4, N5, N6, N7, N8, N15, N16, N19
  • North West London - NW1, NW2, NW3, NW5, NW6, NW8, NW10
  • West London - W1, W2, WC, W3, W9, W10, W11, W12
  • South West London - SW1, 
  • East Central London - EC1, EC2, EC3, EC4

Details of the upskill course 

The course will start on Monday 24 June 2024, however your first day will be Friday 21 June 2024 as you will be required to travel to our head office in Haydock, Merseyside. Here you will meet numerous members of staff whilst going through a company induction. You will also pick up your new company vehicle, fuel card uniform, mobile, tools etc.

You will then be ready to start the 10 week training course, your training will be a mixture of classroom and field based with the classroom based work taking place at Logic Training based mainly from their Luton site.

All training is fully funded by MPAAS, you will also have any accommodation paid for if necessary.

Salary & Benefits for the Gas Engineer

  • Starting Salary: £34,000 (This includes your £4,000 London Weighting)
  • Salary once qualified: £41,000 (This includes your £4,000 London Weighting)
  • Working Hours: Monday-Friday 42.5 hours per week 8am-5.30pm (1 hour for lunch)

Once you are qualified and are live in the field, you will also have the opportunity to increase your earnings with the following bonuses:

  • Daily Meter Fitting Bonus Structure: £20 per meter after the 5 meter. (Eg – 3 Duals = £20, 4 Duals = £60)
  • Attendance Bonus: £300 per month
  • Health & Safety Bonus – £2,000 Health & Safety bonus (Paid £500 per quarter)
  • Overtime opportunities - £110 per dual

What we require from you:

  • Gas qualified – CCN1 & MET1
  • 12 months+ experience working as a gas engineer via an established business
  • Any experience working on gas meters will be beneficial.
  • Full, manual driving license with no more than 6 points
  • Must be willing to complete the full 10 weeks training with no annual leave booked.
  • Must be willing to travel – There maybe occasions when you are in the field mentoring that you may have to travel and stay over due to the availability of engineers in your location.
  • Must complete a DBS with no unspent convictions.
  • As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to attend an assessment day where you will complete numerous tasks associated with a gas installation to gauge an understanding of your competency.
