Position Overview: We are currently seeking a skilled CAD Technician to join our team in Sheffield. The successful candidate will play a key role in producing detailed technical drawings and models using CAD software, collaborating closely with our engineering and production teams, and contributing to the successful delivery of projects.

Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla Structures) to create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of steel structures, components, and assemblies.
  2. Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and design requirements to develop accurate and precise CAD designs that meet project objectives and client specifications.
  3. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to review design concepts, provide input on feasibility and optimization, and make necessary revisions as required.
  4. Generate bill of materials (BOM), material take-offs, and other documentation required for fabrication and construction.
  5. Conduct thorough quality checks to ensure compliance with design standards, industry regulations, and client requirements.
  6. Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, presentations, and reports as needed for project meetings and client submissions.
  7. Stay updated on advancements in CAD technology and industry best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in design processes.
  8. Coordinate closely with production teams to address any design-related issues or challenges that may arise during fabrication and installation.
  9. Participate in project meetings, site visits, and client consultations as required to support project delivery.
  10. Maintain organized records of CAD files, drawings, and project documentation.

Qualifications:

  1. Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or similar programs.
  2. Previous experience in a CAD technician role within the steel fabrication industry or a related field is preferred.
  3. Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction methods, and materials, particularly related to steel fabrication.
  4. Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical drawings and models.
  5. Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  6. Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to resolving design challenges.
  7. Time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  8. A relevant diploma or degree in engineering, drafting, or a related field is desirable.
  9. Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) concepts and workflows is advantageous.
  10. Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations, such as Eurocodes and British Standards.
