Electrical Design Engineer

Grundfos Manufacturing are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join the busy Electrical Engineering team in Sunderland.  

The purpose of this role is to respond to controls, systems enquiries and design solutions for a diverse range of controls and electrical installation equipment for Grundfos products. You will support production and testing with the necessary documentation and technical support to produce quality products in accordance with required standards. 

You will also:  

  • Provide timely electrical engineering support to the organization for both pre-sales tender and post sales translation to production.  

  • Respond to sales enquiries to produce pre-sale cost estimates and drawing information.  

  • Respond to sales orders to ensure completion of all drawings, bill of materials and documentation to company and external standards.   

  • Ensure controls and system products are correctly and adequately maintained within Grundfos’s manufacturing system 

Working in the Electrical Engineering team your primary duties will be:  

  • To provide electrical design support to sales and our production, and project engineering functions.   

  • Support product development both in manufacture and at interface with our sales and marketing functions.  

  • Support product design, build, test and release through the stages of our product development process.   

  • Support production process and facility development using Grundfos Production System  

  • Provide accurate and timely cost estimates to internal and external customers for control panels, electrical installations and systems  

  • Support mechanical CAD team to produce production layout drawings  

  • Provide technical support to production during build and test  

  • Provide technical support during customer FAT testing  

  • Provide remote technical support to Grundfos service engineer during commissioning 

What experience and qualifications should you possess?  

  • Must have experience of schematic design, control panel layouts, be able to read and follow circuit drawings and ideally have experience of control panel production.   

  • Must be able to create electrical schematics and layout drawings for low voltage power and control circuits  

  • Proficiency with electrical schematic software – Eplan Electric P8 preferred  

  • Must have a good knowledge of control panel components and an understanding of their functions.  

  • Knowledge of Form 4 control panel would be an advantage  

  • Knowledge of EN electrical standards and BS7671 requirements for electrical installations  

  • Experience of Inspection & Testing would be an advantage but not essential.  

  • Electrical engineering qualification to Degree level or equivalent (as a minimum HNC) and completion of an electrical apprenticeship is desirable.   

  • Experience of advanced integrated manufacturing systems, i.e. SAP/MRP is desirable.  

  • Very good oral and written communication skills.  

  • Knowledge of ERP systems.  Experience with SAP preferable.    

  • Methodical approach to planning and organisation.   

  • A self motivator 

  • Competent with IT and the MS Office software packages (Word, Excel & PowerPoint etc).
