I am looking for an Engineering Manager from the Food Manufacturing industry who is looking for a new job. My client are looking for someone to take the site to the next level and offer some stability over the next 18 - 24 months.

Main Purpose of Role

Reporting to the General Manager, the Engineering Manager will take full accountability for the engineering and maintenance function of the site. Time will also be spent liaising with other departments, functions and senior management with regards to organisation and planning of works and driving a proactive maintenance strategy and continuous improvement activities

This position provides the right candidate to make a real difference in a people centric organization. This will be a very busy role with a high level of autonomy, but offers the right individual what is basically a blank canvas to be able to build something from the ground with the backing of a team and business who have the desire to be word class.

Key Accountabilities

Develop and maintain a positive Health and Safety Culture (“Zero accidents”)

Develop and maintain a high performing value adding engineering team (“Reliability”).

To co-ordinate and manage all maintenance activities on site, covering both plant and facilities to meet legal, customer and business requirements (“compliance PPM generation, refinement and completion”).  

Effective strategic leadership of the Engineering and Support Teams.

Provide direction and ensure the optimal performance of on-site teams to aid the Client's business requirements.

Develop the maintenance team and strategy to drive a continuous improvement culture to increase plant reliability, demonstrated by KPI’s frameworks and initiatives (“Reactive vs Proactive, Downtime trending, Top loss, RCM, RCA, worst performing asset, labour utilization”)

Develop manage and maintain department KPI's & performance to meet business needs.  

Develop, Audit, and improve all Maintenance systems and Processes in line with the statutory requirements and to company technical standards (“GMP”).    

Manage the daily provision and the development & training of Engineering personnel.

Implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the business.  

Have relevant and demonstrable engineering expertise to support the shift engineers.

Management of engineering stores ensuring all appropriate spares parts are in place, are available when required and stock levels are set correctly based on MTBF and MTTR (“stock value, redundant stock, critical spares, obsolescence, stock outs, standardisation and rationalization”)  

Budgets are controlled at all times with any variances escalated promptly and efficiently with the correct justifications and reasoning attached.   

Education and Qualifications

  • HND – Engineering (Degree preferable).
  • Demonstrable leadership and development experience within a manufacturing environment (Food manufacturing preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven track record of building and managing budgets.
  • Proven knowledge of scoping, planning, and implementing Projects.
  • LEAN/ CI Experience (6th Sigma Preferred).
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office etc).
  • Knowledge of CMMS set up (Implementation experience preferred).
  • Safety qualifications (IOSH/ NEBOSH preferred)
  • L8 Qualified,
  • DSEAR/ NH3 Knowledge

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrable track record of managing compliance (legal and customer) in line with best practice.
  • Proven team management and development experience.
  • Management of CMMS and stores systems, including developing KPI’s.
  • Carry out annual appraisal reviews with all direct reports and bench marking of departmental scores.  
  • Involved with expenditure analysis and reporting to ensure all budget areas are accurately monitored and controlled.  
  • Ensuring that expenditure is kept within agreed budget levels.    
  • Both Assisting in and delivering full capital projects implementations.
  • Involved in Continuous Improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives and improvements.
  • Ensure that operation meets all legal requirements with regards to health & safety, environmental, general safety, employment law and any other legal requirements  
  • Highly proficient in verbal and written communication skills    

Experience

This role will suit an Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, Chief Engineer, or Head of Engineering who is looking to put their own “stamp” on a business and engineering function whilst being afforded the opportunity to grow and develop their own skills into an expanding organisation.
