Recruitment Solutions Workforce LTD are looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our client, a specialist manufacturer based in Gwent. Working directly for the Senior Management, supporting the development of complex and novel engineering solutions, the Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for ensuring efficient and successful assembly and testing.

The role requires technical leadership of activities in an efficient manner to ensure first of type and subsequent projects are delivered in accordance with the project programmes. It’s envisaged the role will ensure the as-builts meet the design requirements, or in cases of deviation, will liaise with all stakeholders (project, design and assembly leads) to find a sufficient solution.

The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, mechanical/electrical and hydraulic system designs for railway and mobile machines.

Job Duties:

  • Ensure the provision of efficient high quality engineering design projects
  • Offer support and guidance to more junior members of the team.
  • Effectively manage own time which will be necessary when allocated to more than one project.
  • Check/review engineering analysis and design to both Euro-norms and British Standards.
  • Assist in mentoring and training the broader team
  • Support production during First Of Type (FOT) assemblies
  • Prepare, update and compile the latest assembly/build documentation (General assembly, sub-system assembly, schematics and build notes) and prepare a document pack prior to the start of build.
  • Be responsible for ensuring the assembly/build documentation are kept up to date during (FOT) assembly.

o Any changes to, or new additions, of procured parts are reflected in the BOM

o Any design changes are identified, discussed, documented and implemented

  • Work with the compliance team assisting with supporting documentation for technical & product acceptance.
  • Support the compliance and assurance deliverables

Key Attributes:

  • Self-driven with ability to learn.
  • Highly Proficient in Solidworks CAD packages inc FEA simulation add-in.
  • Willingness to develop
  • Rail background preferred but not essential
  • Good leadership skills

Background Required:

  • Minimum BSc/BEng Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Minimum 5-10 years in an engineering design environment

Hours of Work:

  • Monday – Thursday 08:00 - 17:00
  • Friday 08:00 – 14:30
  • Minimum 40 Hour Week

Holidays: 23 Days Annual Leave + 8 Bank/Public Holidays per calendar year (Jan – Dec)

Pension: The Company currently runs an auto-enrolment pension scheme with Royal London, with a total contribution being made of 9% (4.5% employee & 4.5% employer).
