£50,000 - £60,000/annum

The Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for ensuring targets are met regarding safety, throughput, yield, quality, cost etc. Having a strong technical and academic background, the incumbent will apply theoretical knowledge to find and implement practical and sustainable solutions to optimise plant performance, improve efficiencies, eliminate waste and drive down cost.

The client is a top tier COMAH chemical site based in Kingston Upon Hull.

Description

The Chemical Process Improvement Engineer will be responsible for:

* Ensuring effective measurement tools are in place and that measurements are collected to track and report performance using performance indicators for production yields, raw material conversion, resource utilisation and asset utilisation
* Works with Production Technicians, networks with other engineers on site and other wider business partners to leverage knowledge on plant operations
* Translate Business needs relating to production to production optimisation goals
* Provides operating guidance to be applied in procedures and process operating discipline and identifies improvement opportunities through customer feedback and through programs driven by the business
* Works with the supply chain to ensure plant needs are met from raw material planning to logistics
* Owning the technical content of the Process description and Narratives.
* Analyse plant data to understand issues
* Apply CI processes to the constraints identified (5 step Problem solving, action teams) and be seen as a role model in this effort
* Develop solutions to current identified constraints, create the management of change documentation, obtain financial approval, develop implementation plans, and support the implementation and commissioning of the solution
* Participate in the analysis and resolution of identified utilisation and reliability issues
* Lead investigations for incidents
* Participate in Hazard Identification and Risk assessment activities
* Lead the closure of action items generated during safety reviews
* Support the competency program of the production team
* Line management of the production engineers
* To understand the MAPP - Major Accident Prevention Policy
* To comply with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and arrangements
* To report all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly
* To act in a safe and responsible manner at all times

* Have an awareness of the ISO management systems that the company adheres to for Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Energy and Quality Management (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 5001 & ISO 9001).
* Follow company policies, procedures and arrangements to ensure compliance with the management systems for ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 & ISO9001

Profile

The successful Chemical Process Improvement Engineer will have:

* Bachelor or Master degree in Chemical or Process engineering
* Significant (>5 years) experience in supporting production of large-scale high hazard plant operations
* Knowledge of COMAH regulations an advantage
* Knowledge and experience of using tools to improve manufacturing such as Root Cause investigation methodologies, Lean manufacturing principles, Continuous Improvement methodology etc
* Solid technical knowledge of core chemical engineering principles and processes - thermodynamics, heat transfer, mass transfer etc
* Demonstrated expertise of turning theoretical knowledge into practical improvements
* Experience of automated process control systems
* Demonstrable experience of delivering programme improvement.
